TWS commemorates the first anniversary of their Japan campaign with a refreshing summer release of their second Japan single album SODA SODA.
After winning two prestigious recognitions, including the “Best Rookie Award” at the Japan Golden Disc Awards in March, K-Pop boy group TWS continues to expand their reach in Asian and international markets.
This group is known for their youthful energy and vibrant charisma that captivate listeners with their irresistible charm and music. One of their notable songs is “Plot Twist (original: 첫 만남은 계획대로 되지 않아),” which became South Korea’s most streamed debut song of 2024 in terms of domestic streaming charts.
Last August 3, TWS unveiled their second Japan single album, SODA SODA, with the title track of the same name alongside two additional across major music streaming platforms. The release coincides with the group’s Japan debut anniversary, following their debut single “Nice to see you again (はじめまして/Hajime Mashite)” headlining major weekly charts and earned platinum certification for surpassing 250,000 physical albums copies sold.
With this album, Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, and Kyungmin invite listeners to return to the comforting warmth of summer, reminding them that it is more than just a season, but an unforgettable collection of youth filled memories.
Another summer hit
The title track “SODA SODA” sounds more like a city pop with a modern twist. Its instrumental features a more groovy bass and bubbly, upbeat sounds that will make you dance even under the scorching heat.
Co-written by members Kyungmin, Jihoon, and Youngjae, the song feels more even personal, with the lyrics that mirror TWS’s journey and memories, it carries a hopeful message about embracing the present and near future while treasuring the sparkling moments of youth that shaped them.
The music video looks more refreshing like a bottle of sparkling soda—Ramune, to be specific, which is a famous Japanese carbonated drink. The soda brand plays a role in the music video as well as in the first line of the song that brings a comforting feeling of nostalgia for this summer track. The song uses metaphorical lyrics to compare a capped soda being shaken to a love that builds up like a pressured fizz ready to burst.
The beauty of youth
Diving deeper into the music video, the gloomy tunnel where Shinyu finds himself lost may symbolize the uncertainty and fear that often come with adulthood. The atmosphere gradually brightens as he finds his way out and reunites with the other TWS members in a scene that reminisces the bond where it all began.
This moment highlights their unwavering presence and the hope-filled memories they share that provide comfort, empowerment, and happiness.
Just like the fizz of a soda, those specific moments may be brief, but the joy and its memories leave a long lasting impact in our lives.
“Palm Tree” and “If I’m S, Can You Be My N? (Japanese ver.)”
“Palm Tree” gives another dimension of summer. The b-side track captures the atmosphere of a warm summer night by the sea, blending disco-inspired rhythms with a carefree, party energy. It feels like spending the evening beneath swaying palm trees, your favorite drink in hand, as the ocean breeze and music set the mood.
The album also includes the Japanese version of “If I’m S, Can You Be My N,” the title track of their second mini album, SUMMER BEAT!.
