Girls’ Generation Sub-Unit Hyorisoo Officially Debuts with Skibidee Performance MV

Trust Girls’ Generation to turn what began as a comedy sketch on YouTube into an actual new girl group sub-unit with a catchy debut single!

A year before their highly anticipated 20th anniversary, Girls’ Generation debuts a brand new sub-unit, HyoRiSoo. The trio consists of the group’s famous dance line: Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung. Their latest release comes after a series of comedy videos showing the sub-unit’s preparation on Hyoyeon’s YouTube Channel, 효연의 레벨업 Hyo’s Level Up.

This new K-Pop group released three brand-new songs to coincide with their debut. The main track, “Skibidi,” which came with its own performance music video, along with “A Night When Stars Pour Down” and “Lowkey in Love.”

The Skibidi Music Video

HyoRiSoo just released their first performance music video, “Skibidi,” under SM Entertainment’s official YouTube channel. It features all three girls in different variations of white tank tops and similar baggy pairs of jeans. Their look is reminiscent of both 1990s hip-hop fashion and a sexier take on their iconic “Gee” skinny jeans look.

The title of their debut track, “Skibidi,” sparked a lot of online discourse since it’s a viral internet slang term that young Gen Alpha kids use for a variety of definitions. Hyorisoo seems to have used it to court a younger target audience, while also emphasizing that the title plays on the online virality of this whole sub-unit process.

Like the girls themselves, the title track keeps the joke going, but with genuinely good music.

A Long Time Coming

Despite forming only recently, Sones have been asking for this Hyorisoo sub-unit for more than a decade. Fans started joking about their possible sub-unit as early as 2011, when these three members, also known as the group’s dance and rap line, started distinguishing themselves as the cooler and more aggressive contrasts to SNSD’s usually light and girly appeal.

This escalated further when SM Entertainment debuted the first official Girls’ Generation sub-unit, TaeTiSeo, consisting of Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, the group’s main vocalists. Then, in 2018, they formed another sub-unit, Oh!GG, which included the five members who remained in SM at the time: Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Yoona.

From YouTube Comedy Skit to Real-Life Promotions

The group had been teasing a possible sub-unit ever since Hyoyeon introduced the idea on her YouTube Channel. Before fans knew it, Yuri and Sooyoung joined in. They eventually roped in various SM Entertainment figures to train them to debut like a new girl group.

For the most part, however, fans thought it was all an elaborate joke. They watched the content for fun, but there was no concrete confirmation that this sub-unit would actually materialize. It was only when the trio performed their new tracks at the 2026 CassCool Festival that it finally dawned on Sones that Hyorisoo is officially happening.
