Su-jeong Remembers a Desperate Rescue in Doctor X: Mafia in White Episode 6
Episode 6 opens with a flashback to Su-jeong’s time in Lagota. She fights a soldier when a young boy suddenly attacks him to protect her. The boy, Baraka, then begs Su-jeong to save his sister, Neema, who has a bullet lodged in her skull.
Su-jeong sees how desperate Baraka is to save his sister. She carries him and rushes toward Neema. In the present, a former president arrives at GUMC by helicopter. Su-jeong immediately goes to the hospital and asks Tae-kyeong about Oh Sang-beom. She refuses to leave the elderly patient’s side.
Meanwhile, Won-jin becomes upset when the staff considers moving Sang-beom to another room for the former president. Seong-jin reassures her that Su-jeong will protect Sang-beom and asks her to stay calm.
GUMC Takes on a Dangerous Surgery
A week earlier, members of the Magnolia Society meet with Chairman Kim, Mayor Im, and Dr. Gu at GUMC. They ask Director Bu to perform a complicated operation on Sang-beom.
Sang-beom suffered a gunshot wound during the Gwangju Democratic Uprising 46 years ago. Several bullet fragments remain lodged in his skull despite previous attempts to remove them. The injury causes frequent seizures, forcing him to rely on painkillers.
Director Bu refuses to perform another operation. He fears that the procedure could kill Sang-beom and damage GUMC’s reputation. However, Chairman Kim makes it clear that Bu has no choice.
With rumours spreading about GUMC’s financial problems, the doctors discuss who should take the case. Su-jeong suddenly volunteers. Director Bu sees an opportunity. If she fails, the hospital can blame her for the outcome.
Later, Director Bu and Dr. Do offer Hee-sook a bag of cash. She considers the amount too low for the risks involved. Bu promises to give her another bag after Su-jeong completes the operation. That night, Hee-sook warns Su-jeong about Bu’s plan. She reminds her that the hospital could use her as a scapegoat if something goes wrong.
Su-jeong Meets the Haunted Patient
The following day, Tae-kyeong, Won-jin, and Hee-sook travel with Su-jeong to Sang-beom’s hometown. Meanwhile, Seong-jin stays behind and repeatedly texts them because he feels lonely without them. During the train ride, Su-jeong falls asleep. She dreams about the night Sang-beom was shot.
In her vision, Sang-beom tries to buy shoes for his younger brother. He does not have enough money, so the shopkeeper kindly gives him the shoes anyway. A protest suddenly erupts outside. Sang-beom tries to protect his brother but gets shot in the head.
Later, the group takes a bus to Sang-beom’s home. Hee-sook explains that Sang-beom blames himself for his brother’s death. He has also refused treatment for years because he believes he deserves to live with the pain.
Sang-beom now lives with his doctor and nurses. His friends encourage him to keep living so victims of violence will not disappear from history. However, his doctor fears that Sang-beom may not survive another surgery.
Su-jeong bluntly asks whether Sang-beom actually wants to live. Hee-sook then convinces him to undergo the necessary scans and tests.
His doctor eventually persuades him to travel to Seoul. Before Sang-beom leaves, the doctor gives him an envelope of cash and tells him to hold his head high. Sang-beom kneels and thanks him before boarding the train. His doctor and nurses watch him leave with tears in their eyes.
Sang-beom Refuses to Lose His Memories in Doctor X: Mafia in White Episode 6
During the train ride, Sang-beom uses a notepad to communicate with Su-jeong and Hee-sook. He reveals that it is his first train journey in 60 years. He also explains that guilt has kept him trapped in his hometown.
The next morning, Su-jeong watches Tae-kyeong and Won-jin speak with Sang-beom outside the hospital. She wonders what happened during the uprising that left him carrying so much guilt.
Later, Chairman Kim and the other officials visit Sang-beom before his surgery. Instead of simply wishing him well, they use the visit as an opportunity to take photos with him. Su-jeong becomes angry and stops them from touching her patient. Won-jin also uses the hospital’s finger alarm to force the visitors away.
Director Bu then confronts Su-jeong. He tells her that she does not understand how power works in the real world.
Su-jeong later reviews Sang-beom’s brain scans with him. She explains that the bullet fragments have caused his neurological symptoms, including his visions of his brother. Surgery could reduce these symptoms and improve his condition.
However, Sang-beom refuses to undergo the procedure. He realizes that surgery could take away the memories and visions of his brother. For him, those painful memories are the last connection he has to his past.
Sang-beom Faces a Life-or-Death Crisis
That night, Sang-beom quietly leaves his hospital room. Tae-kyeong discovers that he is missing and alerts Won-jin. They search the hospital and review the CCTV footage to find him.
Meanwhile, Su-jeong watches a news report about the former president’s arrival at GUMC. Tae-kyeong suddenly calls and tells her that they still cannot find Sang-beom. Su-jeong rushes back to the hospital. She soon discovers that Sang-beom has gone to the rooftop and appears ready to end his life.
As the former president’s helicopter lands at GUMC, Tae-kyeong and Won-jin desperately try to bring Sang-beom back to safety. Sang-beom begins reliving the traumatic events surrounding his brother’s death. His screams reveal the guilt he has carried for decades.
Elsewhere, Su-jeong races toward the hospital. Baraka’s desperate request to save his sister echoes in her mind. The episode ends as Su-jeong prepares to confront another life-or-death crisis involving a patient who has spent decades trapped by his past.
