Su-jeong Comes to a Patient’s Rescue in Doctor X: Mafia in White Episode 2

Episode 2 of Doctor X: Mafia in White opens with Su-jeong waking from another nightmare about the fire outside White Wings Medical Corps. Meanwhile, GUMC prepares for the surgery of Park Gwang-cheol, a wealthy VIP donor.

Director Bu Seung-gwon grows frustrated when the hospital gives Gwang-cheol special treatment. The patient even dictates how the doctors should handle his surgery. Bu asks Sun-ae to investigate GUMC’s VIP donors and their influence over the hospital.

Elsewhere, workers protest outside the medical centre because Gwang-cheol refuses to pay their wages. Despite the controversy, the hospital continues preparing for his operation. Gwang-cheol chooses Dr. Do Yun-sik to perform the procedure.

On her way to GUMC, Su-jeong encounters a teenage girl named Lee Ju-hui. Ju-hui suddenly collapses, so Su-jeong carries her into the hospital. She pushes Gwang-cheol aside to get Ju-hui immediate medical attention. Sung-gyu has no choice but to carry the VIP donor to his room.

Doctors later discover that Ju-hui suffers from a rare medical condition. Her family also struggles financially, making her upcoming surgery even more difficult.

Doctor X Refuses to Play by the Rules

Back at the staff room, Dr. Do asks Su-jeong to handle paperwork and other minor tasks. She immediately refuses. Her contract only requires her to perform surgeries, and she has no intention of doing anything beyond that.

Sung-gyu asks Tae-kyeong to keep an eye on her. Tae-kyeong follows Su-jeong to the cafeteria and tries to learn more about her. She reveals that she carries a large amount of debt and receives only a small monthly allowance from Hee-sook.

Tae-kyeong feels sorry for her. He assumes Hee-sook exploits Su-jeong through the Locum Tenens Agency. Su-jeong, however, remains more interested in eating dessert than explaining her personal life. Meanwhile, Gwang-cheol complains about Su-jeong after she humiliates him in front of the hospital staff. His anger escalates when he spots a woman wearing a jacket similar to those worn by his protesters.

Gwang-cheol orders security to remove the woman and her wheelchair-bound sister. Su-jeong steps in to stop them. Ju-hui then confronts Gwang-cheol and accuses him of cutting her aunt’s wages. Security pulls her away before the confrontation gets worse.

Later, two internal medicine doctors criticize Su-jeong for diagnosing a patient outside her department. The argument quickly turns into another dispute between the hospital’s surgeons and internal medicine team. Su-jeong ignores them and continues eating.

Two Surgeries, One Dangerous Decision

The doctors later meet to discuss Gwang-cheol’s operation. Dr. Do prepares to perform the complicated procedure, but Su-jeong questions his approach. She insists that she can handle the surgery herself.

Gwang-cheol’s VIP status creates another problem. The hospital plans to move Ju-hui’s surgery so that Dr. Do can prioritize the wealthy donor. Director Bu refuses to choose between the two patients. Instead, he schedules both operations at the same time. Su-jeong agrees to operate on Ju-hui while Dr. Do takes Gwang-cheol.

That evening, Su-jeong meets Hee-sook, Yang Woong-gu and Yoo Mi-kyung. As they play Jenga, they discuss GUMC’s rigid hierarchy. Hee-sook argues that reputation and office politics matter more than actual surgical ability. She believes they must wait for the right opportunity to challenge the hospital.

The following morning, Tae-kyeong tells Ju-hui’s family that Su-jeong will perform the operation. Ju-hui refuses at first because doctors have given her little hope of survival. She tells her mother that she feels tired of being sick and does not want to remain a burden.

Su-jeong changes her mind. She promises to save Ju-hui and convinces her to undergo surgery. Before the operations begin, Su-jeong once again challenges Dr. Do. She tells him that he lacks the skill needed to operate on Gwang-cheol. Dr. Do refuses to give up his position, but Su-jeong’s warning soon proves accurate.

The two operations begin simultaneously. Dr. Do quickly discovers that Gwang-cheol’s cancer has spread in an unusual way. Instead of attempting a more difficult procedure, he prepares to close the patient up. Director Bu realizes that the situation has become critical and calls Su-jeong for help.

At the same time, Ju-hui’s mother and aunt find a letter she wrote before surgery. The emotional message makes them fear the worst. Tae-kyeong tries to stop Su-jeong from leaving Ju-hui’s operation. She ignores him and takes over Gwang-cheol’s surgery. Dr. Bae steps in to assist Ju-hui.

Su-jeong then attempts a highly unusual procedure. She removes a valve from Gwang-cheol’s leg and uses it to reconstruct part of his pancreas. Dr. Do objects to the risky technique, but Director Bu orders him to follow Su-jeong’s instructions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bae watches Su-jeong complete the bleeding control on Ju-hui with remarkable speed. Her surgical precision leaves him stunned. Su-jeong eventually notices that her shift has ended. She tells Dr. Do to finish the operation before she leaves. He becomes furious at her lack of concern for hospital formalities, but he cannot stop her.

Hee-sook later reminds Director Bu that Su-jeong deserves additional payment for handling both operations.

The Secret Behind Doctor X

After the surgeries, Director Bu confronts Dr. Do for nearly abandoning Gwang-cheol on the operating table. Dr. Do breaks down and insists that he never intended to abandon his patient.

Dr. Bae and Sung-gyu later discuss Su-jeong’s unusual surgical technique. They discover that the procedure carries significant risks. Their research reveals that the only other patient who underwent the same technique died two months later.

Even more disturbing, the previous procedure took place at White Wings Medical Corps. The doctors also discover that the surgeon who performed it went by the name Doctor X.

Meanwhile, Tae-kyeong finds Su-jeong checking on Ju-hui. The young patient rests beside her mother after surviving the operation. Gwang-cheol also survives, although his family reacts with surprising disappointment.

The following day, Hee-sook collects Gwang-cheol’s payment in cash. She coldly remarks that he needs to stay alive long enough to pay for his crimes. The episode ends with Director Bu confronting Su-jeong. He criticizes her confidence and questions her claim that she has never failed as a surgeon. With the mystery surrounding Doctor X deepening, Su-jeong’s past at White Wings Medical Corps becomes an even bigger question.

Episode 2 raises the stakes as Su-jeong challenges GUMC’s hierarchy and takes on two demanding surgeries. The tense operating room scenes highlight her exceptional skills while exposing the hospital’s troubling priorities. The revelation linking her to Doctor X adds intrigue and leaves viewers eager to uncover her mysterious past.
