The Lady Greyhounds have divided themselves into cliques, creating tension inside the locker room and during training. While Ted searches for an unusual solution, Keeley and Rebecca meet a powerful new figure in women’s football, and Roy begins an unexpected dating experiment.

Ted Discovers A Divided Team in Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4
The episode begins with the return of two beloved characters: former journalist Trent Crimm (James Lance), now hosting a podcast, interviewing sports psychologist Dr. Sharon Fieldstone (Sarah Niles).
Their conversation focuses on team dynamics and how cliques can form when people seek comfort among those most similar to themselves. While these groups can provide support, Sharon explains that they can also create resentment and damage a team. Richmond soon provides a perfect example.
Ted and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) hear trouble inside the women’s locker room, but coaching a women’s team means they cannot simply walk inside whenever they want. When they are finally allowed to enter, the tension among the players becomes obvious.
The Lady Greyhounds have separated themselves largely by position. Attackers stick with attackers, midfielders with midfielders, and defenders with defenders.
Even Ted’s compliments create problems. Praise one group, and another reacts as though he has taken sides. Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds) confirms what Ted and Beard already suspect. Their players may wear the same Richmond shirt, but they are not yet behaving like one team.
Keeley And Rebecca Meet Zelda Southport
Elsewhere, Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) and Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) attend a women’s football business summit.
There, they hear a speech from influential investor Zelda Southport (Tracey Ullman), who challenges wealthy businessmen to support women’s football with serious money rather than treating it as a charitable side project. Keeley is immediately impressed.
Zelda has money, influence, and experience investing in women’s sports, making her an appealing potential ally for the Lady Greyhounds. Keeley wants Richmond to meet with her and explore what she could offer.
Rebecca is much more cautious. After looking into Zelda’s past, Rebecca discovers details that make her question how the investor conducts business. Keeley sees someone capable of helping Richmond grow, while Rebecca worries about what accepting that help could eventually bring. The disagreement creates another small strain between Rebecca and Keeley.
Keeley Gives Roy A Dating Challenge
Keeley soon faces another complicated conversation when Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) tells her he wants them to get back together. Unfortunately for Roy, Keeley is not ready to restart their relationship simply because he has decided he wants another chance.
After three episodes of questioning the status of their relationship, it is finally revealed that Keeley and Roy have broken up.
She asks whether he has actually dated anyone since their breakup. Roy admits that while he has slept with other women, he has not seriously dated anyone because he still wants Keeley. Keeley thinks that is part of the problem.
She worries that Roy has placed her on a pedestal instead of figuring out what he genuinely wants from a relationship. She challenges him to go on ten dates before they reconsider getting back together.
Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift) unfortunately walks into the conversation and gets assigned the uncomfortable job of keeping count. Roy treats the challenge exactly as expected: like a target that needs completing.
Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4 Recap: Ted Finds Inspiration At The Crown & Anchor
Ted and Beard continue discussing the Lady Greyhounds’ cliques at the Crown & Anchor, the local pub. Mae (Annette Badland) announces that the pub is bringing back trivia night. Beard is thrilled, especially because he considers himself an excellent quiz player.
Ted hears something more useful. At first, he hopes the divisions among the women will disappear naturally. However, another locker-room argument the following day proves that waiting will not solve anything.
Ted cancels the next practice. Instead, everyone is going to trivia night. There is one important condition. Ted will choose the teams himself, deliberately separating players from their usual groups and forcing them to work with teammates they rarely spend time with. The Lady Greyhounds are not thrilled. Ted does it anyway.
Roy Tries To Speed Through Ten Dates
Meanwhile, Roy approaches Keeley’s challenge with maximum efficiency and minimum understanding. Instead of genuinely getting to know different women, he schedules several dates as quickly as possible. His plan inevitably backfires when multiple dates collide at the same bar.
The bartender finds the situation entertaining and eventually counts a drink with Roy as another date. What begins as another box for Roy to tick soon becomes more intimate when the two end up making out. Then Roy’s troublesome knee gives out. His attempt to rush through Keeley’s challenge suddenly ends with a trip to the hospital.
Trivia Night Starts Bringing Richmond Together in Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4
The Lady Greyhounds reluctantly arrive at the Crown & Anchor for trivia night. Ted’s plan begins working surprisingly quickly. Once the players are separated from their usual cliques, they have no choice but to communicate with different teammates. Competition does the rest.
The women become increasingly invested in helping their new groups win, slowly replacing their usual positional loyalties with something broader.
The coaches, meanwhile, form their own team with Beard carrying them. Then he visits the bathroom.
A poster advertising a stage production connected to his former relationship with Jane Payne leaves him almost speechless. Whatever happened between Beard and Jane clearly remains an emotional sore spot. Without their trivia expert functioning properly, Ted and Alice’s team quickly loses its advantage.
Keeley And Rebecca Clear The Air
While Ted handles team bonding, Keeley creates a quieter moment for Rebecca. She arranges dinner for them in the Richmond stands, giving the friends a chance to discuss their recent tension.
Keeley admits that working closely with Rebecca matters deeply to her, even when Rebecca disagrees with her ideas.
Their friendship does not require constant agreement. That becomes especially important as Zelda’s possible involvement with Richmond continues hanging over them. Keeley sees opportunity, while Rebecca still believes caution is necessary. For now, they find enough common ground to move forward together.
Trivia Night Turns Into A Pub Fight
Back at the Crown & Anchor, the trivia competition becomes increasingly intense. One Richmond group eventually faces a team of loud male patrons who have already been making dismissive remarks about the women and their football careers.
Lizzie’s team eventually wins the quiz, but the rivalry does not end there. Things turn ugly when one of the men accuses Gemma (Abbie Hern) of cheating and pours a drink over her.
The other Lady Greyhounds immediately rally around their teammate. An argument becomes a full pub brawl, and soon attackers, midfielders, and defenders are no longer thinking about their old cliques. They are fighting together. Ted’s team-building exercise has worked. Just not remotely in the way he planned.
Roy Meets Dr. Erin Beaumont
Roy’s evening takes another unexpected turn at the hospital. His sister Jenni (Sofia Barclay) brings him to her colleague, Dr. Erin Beaumont (Laura Haddock), who immediately refuses to be intimidated by his usual grumpy attitude.
The two argue almost as soon as they meet. Instead of irritating Roy, Erin’s willingness to challenge him catches his attention. Their conversation has an energy that his rushed dates completely lacked.
By the end of his visit, Roy asks his sister for Erin’s phone number. For the first time, Keeley’s ten-date challenge may be pushing Roy toward actually considering someone else rather than simply racing back to his ex.
The Lady Greyhounds End Up Behind Bars in Ted Lasso Season 4 Episode 4
The aftermath of the pub fight lands Ted, Beard, Alice, and the Lady Greyhounds in jail. It should be a disaster.
Ted sees progress. Sitting together in the same cell, the players are no longer divided into attackers, defenders, and midfielders. The fight has given them a shared experience and, strangely enough, the unity Ted had been trying to create.
Then another surprise arrives. Zelda uses her connections to get the Richmond group released without having to pay bail.
Her intervention impresses Keeley, but it gives Rebecca another reason to remain suspicious. Zelda clearly has enormous influence and seems perfectly comfortable using it.
She also allows news of the arrest to reach the media, suggesting she may view the scandal as useful publicity for the Lady Greyhounds rather than something that needs hiding. Zelda might be able to help Richmond. The bigger question is what her help will eventually cost.
Richmond Faces Its Biggest Challenge Yet
Once everyone is free, the coaches receive another piece of news. The Lady Greyhounds’ next opponent will be Chelsea, a “really good” team. The announcement immediately fires up the players.
Ted has finally created the united response he wanted, but he still makes sure the team faces consequences for destroying Mae’s pub. Everyone has to run back and help clean up the mess.
The episode closes by returning to Trent and Sharon, whose earlier conversation about cliques has played out almost perfectly through Richmond.
The Lady Greyhounds needed something powerful enough to break down the walls between them. Somehow, trivia, insults, and one disastrous pub fight did the job.
“Greyhounds’ Day Off” proves that building a football team involves much more than collecting talented players and winning matches. Richmond already has results. What it lacks is the sense that everyone succeeds and fails together.
Ted tries to manufacture that connection through mixed trivia teams, but the Lady Greyhounds ultimately create it themselves when one player comes under attack and everyone else immediately stands beside her.
The episode also pushes several relationships into unfamiliar territory. Keeley and Rebecca learn how to disagree without damaging their friendship, while Roy’s attempt to win Keeley back unexpectedly opens the door to Erin.
Zelda introduces another mystery. Her resources could give Richmond exactly the support it needs, but her aggressive methods make Rebecca’s caution difficult to dismiss.
Most importantly, the Lady Greyhounds leave the police station more united than when they entered the pub. With Chelsea waiting next, Richmond may finally be ready to stop playing as separate groups and start facing its challenges as one team.
