Rakuten Viki, the global streaming platform for Asian entertainment, is following the international success of Love for You with Overdo. The new Republican-era romance stars Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan. It is now streaming on Rakuten Viki following the July 31 finale of Love for You.

Love for You made a strong debut on the platform. The series ranked No. 1 in weekly viewership across numerous regions during its premiere week. It also stayed among Viki’s Top 2 most-watched titles throughout its simulcast run. The results reflect the growing international interest in Chinese dramas, particularly those driven by emotional storytelling, strong performances, and polished production.

love for you

Set in 1990s China, Love for You centers on Chen Yi and Miao Jing, portrayed by Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi. The two meet through their parents and initially struggle to understand each other. However, a personal tragedy changes their relationship. As they face difficult family circumstances, they gradually become each other’s source of support.

The drama also marks a notable pairing between two of China’s rising stars. Their chemistry anchors the story as Chen Yi and Miao Jing experience first love, separation, and the possibility of finding their way back to each other.

A Darker Romance Takes Center Stage

Rakuten Viki now follows that success with Overdo, a period romance filled with betrayal, secrets, and unresolved feelings.

The story takes place in Republican-era Shanghai. Murong Qing Yi works as a doctor after enduring years of abuse from his biological mother. His family history takes a complicated turn after he learns that he was mistakenly switched at birth.

While working away from home, Qing Yi discovers a collection of letters. They lead him to Ren Su Su, an orphan who hides secrets of her own. Their encounters gradually bring them closer. Eventually, their growing connection develops into love.

Their romance takes a devastating turn when Su Su makes a desperate decision to protect someone close to her. The choice changes both of their lives. Qing Yi suffers lasting physical and emotional wounds. He also ends up falsely imprisoned and believes that Su Su has died.

Three years later, Su Su returns with a new identity. She also becomes engaged to Qing Yi’s brother. Their unexpected reunion forces both characters to confront the past.

Qing Yi believes Su Su betrayed him. Meanwhile, Su Su carries a painful secret that she cannot reveal. As they face each other again, love and resentment begin to blur.

Their feelings eventually resurface as the truth behind their separation comes to light. However, their personal struggles unfold against a larger national crisis. The two must put aside their differences and confront the conflict together, even as their future remains uncertain.

A Romance Driven by Secrets and Second Chances

Overdo adapts a novel by bestselling author Fei Wo Si Cun, whose works are known for emotionally intense romances. The series combines twists, layered characters, and cinematic visuals.

Wang Churan stars opposite him as Su Su. She has built her profile through dramas including Fireworks of My Heart, Are You the One, Serenade of Peaceful Joy, and Have a Crush on You.
