Bonjour Bakery concluded its successful run as one of Rakuten Viki’s top-viewed Korean variety series across Southeast Asia.
Rakuten Viki has concluded the first season of Bonjour Bakery after a successful eight-episode run. The Korean variety series finished as the platform’s top-performing variety title across Southeast Asia, highlighting its strong regional appeal.
Following its premiere, Bonjour Bakery debuted at No. 1 on Rakuten Viki’s weekly Southeast Asia rankings. It then held the top spot in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia for five consecutive weeks. Moreover, the series remained in the Top 3 throughout its entire run.
The Southeast Asia-exclusive program featured an all-star cast in a unique bakery setting. Veteran actress Kim Hee-ae led the front-of-house team alongside Kim Seon-ho, while Cha Seung-won worked as the head pâtissier. In addition, Lee Ki-taek joined the bakery as his assistant.
Set inside a countryside bakery café, the show introduced its “Yes Senior Zone” concept. The space welcomed guests aged 65 and older to enjoy French-inspired desserts while sharing their stories and life experiences. Instead of relying on competition, the series focused on meaningful conversations, family, and community.
A Heartwarming Series that Connected with Viewers
Lee Ki-taek shared that filming the final episode left a lasting impression on him. He said the closing scene moved him deeply and gave him a greater appreciation for the people around him.
Series writer Kim Ran-ju also reflected on the program’s message. She explained that the team hoped the show would inspire viewers to spend more quality time with their parents over a good meal. According to her, achieving that goal would make the project worthwhile.
The audience responded positively throughout the season. Bonjour Bakery earned a 9.8 out of 10 rating from 739 reviews on Rakuten Viki, making it one of the platform’s highest-rated variety series. Furthermore, many viewers praised its comforting atmosphere, heartfelt storytelling, and genuine interactions between the cast and senior guests.
Unlike many Korean variety shows that emphasize games or competition, Bonjour Bakery embraced a slower and more reflective format. As a result, it stood out for celebrating intergenerational connections and everyday kindness.
