Belgian-Japanese electro-pop duo Aili & Orson explore the pressures of modern life with their introspective new single “Achi Kochi.”
Aili & Orson return with their new single, “Achi Kochi,” out September 11, 2026, via Belgian indie dance label Eskimo Recordings. The track serves as the first preview of their upcoming second album.
With “Achi Kochi,” the duo takes a more introspective approach. Their acclaimed debut, Nandakke?, delivered vibrant neon-pop energy. This time, Aili & Orson blend urgency, melancholy, and reflection into a more restrained sound.
Turning Modern Chaos Into Music
“Achi Kochi” roughly translates to “all over the place.” The title reflects the song’s central theme: the pressure of managing everything at once. Family, friendships, careers, hobbies, and daily responsibilities can quickly become overwhelming.
The duo uses looping Japanese vocals and motorik rhythms to capture that constant pressure. Meanwhile, guest drummer Lander Gyselinck adds energetic disco beats. Dreamy synth pads and a hypnotic Moog bass line complete the track.
Although Aili sings entirely in Japanese, the duo communicates beyond language. The music carries the emotional weight through its rhythm, textures, and atmosphere. As a result, “Achi Kochi” feels both restless and comforting.
Aili & Orson Deepens Their Asian Connection
The new single also strengthens Aili & Orson’s connection to Asian audiences. Following growing recognition in Japan and across Asia, the duo chose to perform the entire track in Japanese. The move also reflects Aili Maruyama’s Japanese heritage.
Previously, the pair collaborated with Tokyo-based creative label TOKA on a Japanese edition of their debut EP, Dansu. Now, their upcoming album opens another chapter in that relationship.
From Belgian Clubs to Global Stages
Aili & Orson formed after meeting in 2019. Aili Maruyama and Orson Wouters quickly developed a spontaneous songwriting style that combines electronic beats, samples, and Japanese vocals.
Their 2021 debut EP, Dansu, spent eight weeks at No. 1 on Belgium’s Radio 1 VOX list. Their first album, Nandakke?, later topped KCRW’s Top 30 Album Chart in the U.S. It also earned airplay from KEXP, BBC Radio 6 Music, and Nova France.
Live, the duo brings the same energy to the stage. They have sold out headline shows across Europe and Japan. In late 2024, they also joined L’Impératrice for a European tour, performing at venues including L’Olympia Paris, Melkweg Amsterdam, and London’s Roundhouse.
