Blumi releases raw song “Such Reverence,” talking about the difficult process of understanding your own part in a failed relationship.

French-British singer-songwriter Blumi releases the song “Such Reverence” via Capitane Records. The song is introspective, exploring love, hindsight, and the difficult process of understanding one’s own part in failed relationships.

The overarching theme is one that takes time – even years – to understand, even for the singer herself. Not because memories had disappeared, but because they remained close and unresolved. With time, there was enough distance to examine the relationship differently, by focusing on her own part in the relationship.

A simple albeit deceptive line is at the heart of this song: “we don’t always love how we’re meant to.”

It took me years to make sense of what I could say, and then the song appeared very quickly, almost in an instant. I like that the recording still carries that immediacy—the rough edges, the birds outside, all of it. It felt more important to keep the emotion intact than to make it perfect.

During the recording, nothing was getting settled; Blumi’s voice was not warmed up, the lyrics were not final, drums were spilling heavily into the vocal microphones, and even birds were chirping loudly from outside the window. But after the first take, musician Romain stopped them and said that, “It sounds great as it is. There’s a great vibe to this take.”

That first performance became the recorded take, as it captured the feeling caught in the room at that particular moment. The occasional instability in Blumi’s voice, the bleed between instruments, and even the birds outside were all still in the record, embracing these imperfections instead of polishing them.

The Rising Artist: Blumi

Behind the stage name Blumi is Emma Broughton, a French-British singer, songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. She left a career in political sociology research, then launched Blumi in 2018. From there, she gradually developed a singular musical universe, full of folk, jazz, and classical music, and refined through meticulous attention to lyrics and vocal expression.

In 2026, starting back in September, she has a UK / European Tour scheduled, including shows alongside Girls in Hawaii and Syd Matters. She will continue on this tour until the end of the year.

Over the years, she has collaborated with independent artists both in the French and international scene, including Bon Iver, Feist, The National, Thousand, Mina Tindle, This Is The Kit, and Bibi Club. Blumi’s debut album is set to be released in early 2027.
