Son Lux returns with Out Into, a rhythm-driven album that blends cinematic textures, spontaneous improvisation, and intimate themes of change and connection.
Son Lux has returned with its ninth studio album, Out Into, out today via City Slang. The acclaimed trio of Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia, and Ian Chang also released a new video for the album’s title track, “Out Into Us.”
The new record takes Son Lux in a more rhythmic and intimate direction. The band keeps its cinematic scale but focuses on tactile sounds, sharp rhythms, and emotionally charged lyrics. Moreover, the songs grew from spontaneous group improvisations during breaks between film projects.

The band recorded the album in bursts over two years. Those gaps gave the musicians time to let the songs develop naturally. They also allowed the rhythms to settle while Lott refined the lyrics.
“These songs are about losing and finding ourselves,” Lott explains. He explores how people can lose themselves in relationships, work, parenthood, ambitions, and personal desires. The album then asks how people can reconnect with themselves and with others.
“Out Into Us” captures that tension through a mix of hip-hop-inspired rhythms and Son Lux’s signature cinematic textures. The track opens with soaring strings and vocals before moving into deep bass, shifting beats, and distorted guitar layers.
A Visual Companion
The album follows earlier singles “Endlessly,” “Want You To Love,” and “No God Like A King.” Each track introduced themes of transformation, connection, and change.
The new “Out Into Us” video expands those ideas. MASS MoCA and Pioneer Works commissioned the project, while Caviar produced it and Alex Cook directed it.
The video follows a family preparing for an approaching storm. What first appears to be an outside threat gradually reveals itself as something shaped by fear and doubt. Instead of escaping, the family steps into the storm and confronts the uncertainty directly.
Son Lux brings the same spirit of experimentation to Out Into. The trio has recently gained major recognition for its film work, including two Oscar nominations and a BAFTA nomination for its score for Everything Everywhere All at Once. The group has also worked on Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts and other major projects.

Furthermore, Son Lux has seen its music reach beyond cinema. Their song “Easy” has been sampled and reimagined by artists including Halsey, G-Eazy, Fall Out Boy, and Lorde.
With Out Into, Son Lux turns its expansive experience into something more immediate. The album balances experimentation with pop instincts while moving between intimate emotions and massive soundscapes.
A 17-minute extended version of the “Out Into Us” video is also being exhibited at MASS MoCA. The installation will travel to other art institutions before concluding at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn. It offers listeners a chance to experience the song beyond the short-form clips that increasingly shape how music reaches audiences online.
Step into Son Lux’s latest era and stream Out Into now for an immersive mix of bold rhythms, cinematic soundscapes, and emotional depth.
