tvN and Netflix’s new drama Four Hands, Two Sonatas follows three young musicians whose ambition intertwines with their love for their art. Its title, simply 포핸즈 (“Four Hands”) in Korean, refers to a piano technique where two people play a single piano together, hinting at the complicated connections that emerge when artists collaborate.
The Story of Four Hands, Two Sonatas
Kang Pio (Song Kang) is on track to becoming a world-renowned pianist, winning local and international competitions with ease. When he crosses paths with Choi Jeongyo (Lee Junyoung), another young pianist with his own troubles, he begins a reluctant friendship that later evolves into rivalry. Joined by viola player Hong Jaein (Jang Gyuri), the three navigate life in a music arts high school while on their path to achieve their dreams.
Four Hands caught viewers’ attention with its very first teasers, showcasing the charged chemistry between its male leads, seen both in lighter moments when they are rehearsing together as well as in their tense onstage performances.
Meet the cast
In his first drama after being discharged from the military, Song Kang plays Kang Pio, a serious perfectionist uninterested in making friends. He is primarily focused on becoming the best musician he can be to prove himself to the people around him.
On the other hand, Four Hands is Lee Junyoung’s last project before the actor began his mandatory military service last July 21. He plays Choi Jeongyo, a piano prodigy whose difficult childhood led him to lose his dream. Unlike Pio, who has lived a rather privileged life, Jeongyo is simply motivated by his desire to survive.
Jang Gyuri rounds out the cast as Hong Jaein, a viola player with a bright personality and an ear for finding fresh talent. Four Hands marks Jang Gyuri’s return to the small screen after her supporting role as Na Yuri in the 2024 MBC drama When The Phone Rings.
Release Date
The show is slated to have twelve episodes, which will air every Saturday and Sunday starting August 29. Korean viewers can watch Four Hands, Two Sonatas on TVing, while international viewers can see the episodes on Netflix on the same day.
