UNTER STRØM

UNTER STRØM closes its debut EP Between Forms with “Stumbling,” an atmospheric electronic track that blends cinematic textures with dancefloor energy.

Electronic duo UNTER STRØM returns with “Stumbling,” the fourth and final track from their debut EP, Between Forms. The duo releases the single through independent label Breathing Records.

Los Angeles and San Diego artists Alex Gonzales of Matte Blvck and John Kunkel of The New Division and John Grand lead the project. They merge techno, melodic house, and industrial electronics into a sound that feels both raw and cinematic.

“Stumbling” brings out the duo’s more atmospheric side. Shifting arpeggios, submerged textures, and evolving rhythms give the track a weightless quality. It moves between moments of calm and sudden intensity.

The production also creates a vivid sense of place. Open spaces, forests, and distant rain seem to emerge through the layers. The track captures the feeling of wandering without knowing where the journey will lead. Still, UNTER STRØM keeps one foot firmly on the dance floor.

From an Unplanned Session to a Finished Record

The duo created “Stumbling” almost by accident. Gonzales and Kunkel opened a new project during an afternoon that they had not planned to spend writing. An arpeggio came first, followed by a rhythm. Within a few hours, most of the track had already taken shape.

They left the session untouched for months. As their catalog grew, the original recording remained. Eventually, what once seemed unfinished began to feel complete. The duo chose not to overwork it. Producer Aaron Short later returned to mix the track. His work helped reveal subtle details within the production. Some sounds appear briefly before sinking back beneath the surface.

Stumbling” reflects the duo’s interest in electronic music that can occupy different spaces. It can move a club crowd, reward close headphone listening, and translate into a live setting.

As the closing track of Between Forms, “Stumbling” completes a four-part introduction that also includes “Orynth,” “Fold,” and “Fragment.” Rather than define UNTER STRØM, the EP reveals the range of their sound.

With more unreleased music already in the works, the duo continues to push beyond genre and expectation. “Stumbling” offers a glimpse of what comes next.

Stream “Stumbling” by UNTER STRØM and immerse yourself in its hypnotic blend of techno, melodic house, industrial textures, and cinematic soundscapes.
