UNTER STRØM return strong with their second single, “Fold,” an experimental track fueled by shared obsession.

Electronic duo UNTER STRØM evokes a dream-like state with “Fold,” released on June 12 through Breathing Records. The new single is packed with texture, blending elements from a range of genres: techno, melodic house, and industrial sonics.

Alex Gonzales and John Kunkel, the two halves of the duo, embarked on this musical project in 2026 after years of working together. While Alex rose to the music scene with the band Matte Blvck, John worked his way up as a DJ under the name John Grand. This time, their shared vision takes a creative turn as they challenge the framework of electronic music, leaving a listening experience that’s both unique and immersive.

Their debut single, “Orynth,” brought a similar experience with its intricate production. Despite their relatively new presence, they’re quickly shaping their signature sound with each release. Like a game of push and pull, there’s a subtle tension that makes itself known in “Fold” and “Orynth.” It builds you up to the hilt before leading into an exhilarating release.

“Fold” was initially a draft Alex made en route to Calgary for a festival performance. After creating the foundation, he shared it with John, sparking a back-and-forth between the two of them. It was then mixed by Aaron Short and mastered by Mike Marsh, who both added the final touches to the now polished single. Starting as an experimental beat with minimal layers, the track soon unfolded into something they consider “one of their most immersive compositions.”

Before its release, “Fold” had already turned into a crowd-favorite in UNTER STRØM’s live sets, with fans repeatedly asking about the track. Fortunately, they don’t have to wait any further as “Fold” officially dropped on all streaming platforms.
