NOTEP releases PAKARANG, a six-track project exploring her vision between the correlation of natural systems and human consciousness.
Thai electronic artist and environmentalist NOTEP unveils her highly anticipated EP, PAKARANG, rooted in themes of resilience, transformation, and interconnectedness. The EP draws inspiration from the gradual rhythms and enduring strength of the natural world.
NOTEP (No-Tep), also known as Note Panayanggool, is a Thai musician and environmentalist from Chiang Mai who creates music following her philosophy on nature and expertise on electronic music. She is also a founding member and ambassador of Coral Gardeners Thailand, an active marine conservation project around the remote islands of Koh Mak and Koh Kood in the Gulf of Thailand. Her participation in this restoration and conservation efforts in Thailand has significantly influenced her creative approach in producing music.
Through her A/V performances and hybrid DJ sets, NOTEP crafts an immersive, multi-sensory set designed to raise awareness of environmental interconnectedness. Her conservation work informs her experimentation with sound, turning music into a medium for community engagement and environmental reflection.
The Philosophy and Sound of PAKARANG by NOTEP
PAKARANG were established through NOTEP previous releases, including “Radio,” which explored the search for inner frequencies, and “Crystallise,” which reflected on transformation through surrender. The six-track EP intensifies her ideas through the symbolism of coral as the skeletal foundation of the ocean ecosystems and its connection to the minerals that make up the human body.
The EP opens with its title track, “PAKARANG,” named after the Thai word for coral. The song was recorded at a coral nursery in Koh Mak, Thailand, during one of NOTEP’s coral planting activities with Coral Gardeners Thailand as part of its reef restoration efforts.
Built around ambient textures, submerged vocal layers, and organic ocean recordings, “PAKARANG” establishes the emotional and philosophical foundation of the project. The track also highlights the cross-cultural artistic collaboration with London-based musician and fellow Platoon artist Tomos, created during a spontaneous writing session while he was visiting Thailand.
Music Built from Meditation and Exploration
NOTEP’s artistic practice is closely connected to her environmental journey. She is a musician that explores, blends in, and immerse on her environmental journey rather than treating advocacy as something separate. She incorporates her experiences in conservation, cultural exchange, and exploration into her creative process.
The focus track “Purnama Flow” are among the six tracks that strongly bind on emotions. Produced during a full moon in Bali with producer Kookojak at his former home studio in Ubud, the track channels meditation and lunar energy into contemporary electronic music.
“Purnama Flow” samples a traditional Northern Thai song from Chiang Mai combined with electronic grooves with atmospheric textures. The result is a danceable track that maintains its meditative character. The track shows a poetic philosophy of following the natural currents of water with trust.
Bridging Art and Nature
As both an environmental advocate and musician, NOTEP continues to connect her artistic practice with ecological restoration and cultural exchange. Her collaborations and experiences in environmental work have become catalysts for both creative exploration and personal transformation.
With the release of PAKARANG, she extends this philosophy beyond the conventional music launch. The project is accompanied by listening sessions in an intimate setting, retreats that combine listening with environment activities, field expeditions, and spatial sound experiences.
NOTEP’s approach has allowed her to gain recognition beyond Thailand, presenting a distinct artistic perspective shaped by environmental consciousness, Southeast Asian traditions, and contemporary electronic production. Through her music, she demonstrates how sound can become a space for reflection, connection, and greater awareness of the natural world.
