The Empire makes their march in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Chapters 5 and 6.
Imperial presence starts to pace up in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Chapters 5 and 6. Our characters face the situation that they are in now that the Empire is on Janix. Additionally, the Empire also sends a mysterious figure that brings more problems to our characters.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Chapters 5 and 6: “Inquisition” and “Night of the Hunted”
As we know from the ending of last week’s chapters, the Empire arrives on Janix. They take control of Lawon’s precinct, interrogating each of their personnel for information about Maul’s whereabouts. But, it gets worse as the one interrogating them is a Jedi hunter. This Jedi hunter uses the force in darker ways to track down Jedi and other force users.
Meanwhile, Rylee, Lawson’s son worries for his father. He even calls his mother, who works for the Empire and assures him that everything will be all right if they just follow what the Empire orders them to. We see a unique point of view here from Rylee and his mother as both believe the Empire is the greater good for the galaxy. Clearly, we know they are not.
Avoiding Imperial conflict
Meanwhile, Devon and Daki are also in hiding. This puts more pressure on them as the Empire prioritizes hunting Jedi that survived Order 66. Running out of ideas of where to go next, TK troopers spot the master and padawan and are on the run once again. They can hold their own, but are aware that they cannot continue being like this.
After the interrogation, Lawson directly goes to his house to find Rylee. A surprise awaits him, but not a welcome one. He finds Rylee, who takes Daki and Devon in to help them hide from the Empire. It did not went long enough though.
The Inquisitor tracks them down, to his delight he finds out that Daki and Devon are Jedi as they ignite their lightsabers. Meanwhile, Lawson and Rylee esape but TK troopers are on their tail. They put up a fight as Devon showcases her Jedi skills and makes life for the TK troopers hard. It is nice that Devon is not just an ordinary Jedi padawan, she really can handle her own and for that, Rylee trusts her.
Being Hunted
The Inquisitor hunts them relentlessly. One cool detail we notice is how he uses the force to create “echos” from the past to determine where his targets could be. Additionally, this cool force power is present in the Jedi games, fans who play those games will appreciate the neat reference for this.
As he draws closer to Devon and Rylee, a duel begins. Devon is holding up barely, as the Inquisitor’s physicality overpowers her. But fret not, Maul makes his aura-filling entrance and makes the save to Devon. We get what could be one of the best action scenes of the show so far. The animation of the lightsabers moving is such a treat to the eyes. Also, another cool detail is that the sound effects of Maul’s lightsaber is actually Sam Witwer, the voice of Maul, screaming.
Once again, Maul showcases he is one of the most skilled with the lightsaber as he casually duels with the Inquistor, Devon also joins the fight. Lastly, to ensure their escape, Devon cuts the trailer of the train and separates them from the Inquisitor.
After the duel, the Inquisitor reports of what happened to a mysterious figure on the hologram. Who could it be? We are anxious wait to find out.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Chapters 5 and 6 thoughts
Another great set of chapters for this week. You can always count on the Empire to make things interesting for our characters. Additionally, the Inquisitor showing why he is a threat, dueling with our lighsaber wielders are a treat to us fans. Six chapters in, the show is very consistent in terms of overall quality so far, it is that good.
