Snikt Snikt, Bub. We are going on an adventure with Wolverine and his “friends” in X-Men 97 Season 2 episode 5.
Starting off the second half of the season with X-Men 97 season 2 episode 5. We see Wolverine along with Morph and his other associates go on a mission to visit a weapon X program. Specifically, to take down another potential danger the people behind the creation of Wolverine’s claws. But, they have no idea what is coming.

X-Men 97 Season 2 Episode 5: “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs”
Picking off from last week’s shocker of an episode, we see Wolverine on a mission to infiltrate a Weapon X facility. Along with Morph, he recruits his old associates from his colored past. Specifically, they are Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Maverick, and Garrison Kane.
What awaits them though? This is not just a normal infiltration for them. Something horrific is coming.
Weapon X facility
While on the way at the facility, the team runs into trouble as mutate animals compromise their aircraft. Furthermore, an accident occurs and they crash land to a jungle near the facility. Most of the team survive, with Garrison Kane being the first casualty. He won’t be the last. The team observes the animals near the facility are “mutated” as they spill green blood.
As they go inside the facility, the discover the scientist Dr. Cornelius, one of the people behind the Weapon X program. They interrogate the doctor but something is off. Specifically, he is acting more maniacal than normal. Wolverine notices the scent, but still cannot pinpoint what. Dr. Cornelius reveals himself as being infected and attacks the team, forcing them to spread out.
The Brood
We see them discover that these infecting the facility, is The Brood. A race of insect-like aliens that are not from this world. Moreover, they fond out that the only way for them to adapt and survive is to infect a host capable of physical feats. Who is qualified to be a host? Wolverine.
While spread out to find a faster way out of here, Maverick asks the others for help and back-up. But, when they arrive at a laboratory, they discover Maverick is fatally wounded. Specifically, stabbed by three claws.
Brood Wolverine
Morph, Lady Deathstrike, and Sabretooth discover that Wolverine has become of The Brood. A rampage occurs thanks to his new form, as if his animalistic nature could not get more feral, this brings more trouble for the remaining uninfected. Furthermore, it gets worse as it awakens another living weapon. Omega Red.
Thankfully, Omega Red’s own rampage of the facility gives Morph and the others time to create a plan to escape and save Wolverine. But, Sabretooth rebuts. He explains to Morph that all that is happening IS because of Wolverine. He tells them to infiltrate this facility, when in truth, his main purpose is to re-inject himself with Adamantium to get his metal claws and skeleton back. Morph, displaying his loyalty to Wolverine shrugs it off and continues his plan to save his friend.
They execute the plan, but not without its hardships of course. Can we talk about how fun it is to watch Morph use his mutant powers? He is just a walking cameo machine. An Easter-egg that bring smiles to viewers like us.
“The Best at what he does”
After luring Brood Wolverine into a chamber, he gets injected with Adamantium into his body once again. Conveniently, this procedure also heals him from being a Brood. Meanwhile, Omega Red continues his rampage, eliminating more Brood insects. When things are getting grim for the remaining uninfected, Wolverine saves them. Now healed and ready to go, he gladly slashes and dices the remaining Brood. Look, seeing Wolverine go into Berserker rage mode is always a sight to see.
The facility collapses, along with Omega Red but the team escape just in time. While at their escape aircraft, the team reflect on what happened. Moreover, Logan and Morph have a conversation about identity and the burden of it.
X-Men 97 Season 2 Episode 5 Final Thoughts
Overall, a fun side quest of an episode. We get to see fan-favorite X-characters like Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, and Omega Red. Some character moments like Morph’s loyalty to his friends. Lastly, Wolverine going berserk on his enemies one again. Now, we cannot wait for next week’s episode if it is going to show the aftermath of Magneto’s demise.
