Barth Enters Seminary Life in Ticket to Heaven Episode 1

Ticket to Heaven episode 1 opens with a flashforward set in January 2025, the day Thailand begins enforcing the LGBT+ marriage law. Barth arrives at a church and surprises Father Arnon. Arnon never expected to see him again. Barth says he is there because someone important to him will be ordained.

The story then shifts back to 1996 at a seminary school. A group of Grade 12 boys prepares the church ahead of an approaching storm. Barth arrives as the newest student. He appears rebellious and openly questions faith and religion.

Father Arnon asks Tanrak, the top scholarship student, to help Barth adjust. Tanrak is kind and quiet, but he mostly keeps to himself. Later, Barth notices a group of bullies in the shower area. Kongkit leads the group and insults another student using homophobic slurs. Kongkit then turns his attention to Barth, but Barth shuts him down.

Afterward, Tanrak shows Barth around and explains the dorm rules, including the use of unlocked lockers. However, he mistakenly assigns Barth to Kongkit’s locker. Barth remains distant but still thanks Tanrak for the help. Meanwhile, Tanrak’s best friend Kongdech finds Barth strange.

Soon after, Kongdech’s uncle, Deacon Valentino, prepares for ordination. His family travels from their village to attend the ceremony. They also show affection toward Tanrak, who grew up as an orphan.

A flashback then reveals Tanrak’s childhood. He lost his parents at a young age. Father Arnon comforts him and tells him that good people will reunite in heaven. Motivated by this, Tanrak decides to enter the seminary.

Father Arnon Asks for Tanrak’s Help

At present, Barth arrives late to the ceremony. He wears casual clothes and sits with the guests. Later, he leaves in the middle of the event, which frustrates Tanrak.

Afterwards, Father Arnon speaks with Barth. He tells him not to let anger take control. Barth’s past is then revealed. In his previous school, bullies harassed him and used homophobic slurs. He reacted violently and nearly killed one of them. As a result, the school expelled him, and no institution agreed to accept him.

Barth now studies at the seminary through a diocesan scholarship. Because of this, he must decide how he will serve God. Father Arnon warns him not to disappoint him. Tanrak overhears part of their conversation. Meanwhile, the boys notice a painting called “Ticket to Heaven.” Father Arnon explains that it represents strong faith. He adds that temptations often pull believers away from the path to heaven.

Furthermore, Arnon reminds Tanrak again to guide Barth. Tanrak hesitates, but he still watches over him from time to time. However, Barth keeps his distance and avoids the other students.

Later, while cleaning, Kongdech and Tanrak talk about their backgrounds. They reveal that they are both poor. Kongdech only studies at the seminary because of a scholarship. He complains that poor people rarely get real choices in education. In contrast, Tanrak accepts the seminary as his best option.

Barth Questions Tanrak’s God

That night, Kongkit reports that his headphones are missing. He immediately blames Barth. The situation escalates quickly, and Barth and Kongkit fight. Tanrak steps in and calls Master Phak, who intervenes and stops the fight.

Later, Kongkit retaliates. He throws Barth’s school bag into an abandoned swimming pool. Tanrak insists on helping Barth retrieve it. However, Barth grows bitter. He feels angry because no one believes he did not steal the headphones.

Furthermore, Kongkit locks both Barth and Tanrak inside the pool area. They end up trapped overnight. Tanrak worries about breaking curfew. In contrast, Barth sarcastically says people will only believe him when the truth finally comes out.

While stuck together, they talk about faith. Barth reveals that he once believed in God. However, he lost that belief when no help came during his lowest point. The next morning, Master Phak and the other students find them. Father Arnon looks disappointed. Tanrak panics as the situation unfolds.

Episode 1 of Ticket to Heaven sets up a tense and emotionally layered start, balancing seminary life with deeper themes of faith, trauma, and belonging. Barth and Tanrak’s dynamic immediately stands out, especially as their opposing worldviews slowly collide under pressure. The episode also leaves a strong hook, hinting that the real conflict lies not just in rules or rebellion, but in what each character believes about God and themselves.
