Grand Prince Yi An calls off his marriage agreement with Seong Hui-ju in Perfect Crown episode 5, believing it is the only way to protect her from the harm their agreement has brought into her life.
In Perfect Crown episode 5, which aired on April 24, the fallout from the car accident continues as Yi An saves Hui-ju and the King, but later breaks off their marriage agreement, believing it is the only way to protect her.

Perfect Crown Episode 5 Recap: Seong Hui-ju Worries for Grand Prince Yi An
After the car accident from episode 4, Grand Prince Yi An risks his life to save both Hui-ju and the King. Fortunately, the King only suffers minor bruises, while Yi An injures his shoulder and undergoes surgery, and Hui-ju ends up unconscious.
As news spreads, Queen Mother Yi-rang tries to confront Hui-ju, but the Prime Minister stops her, warning that blaming Hui-ju could also implicate the King. Yi An risked his life and caused the accident just to save the King, racking up countless traffic violations and substantial damage in the process.
Meanwhile, the King checks on Hui-ju, and when she wakes up, she immediately asks about him. He apologizes for insisting on the drive. Once she learns about Yi An’s condition, she rushes to see him, clearly worried.
During their conversation, Hui-ju asks Yi An not to risk his life for her again. However, he responds that it depends on whether she puts him in that situation again.
Yi An Overhears Hui-ju Marrying Him for Status
The next day, the accident continues to affect Hui-ju’s family business, as her brother, Tae-joon, is told to monitor the situation while the Castle Group faces heavy losses.
At the hospital, Secretary Hye-jung visits Hui-ju and suggests releasing the dashcam footage to clear her name, but Hui-ju refuses since it would expose the King’s involvement. Frustrated, Hye-jung blames the prince for putting Hui-ju in danger since their marriage agreement and even suggests calling off the marriage.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Min Jeong-woo overhears their conversation, prompting Hui-ju to admit their marriage agreement. And, that she was just marrying him for his noble status. Seizing the moment, he unexpectedly offers to marry her instead.
Later, Hui-ju realizes that Prince Yi An left the hospital without saying goodbye. As she tries to reach him, she learns he may have overheard her conversation with Jeong-woo, leaving her uneasy.
Yi An Calls Off His Marriage Agreement with Hui-ju in Perfect Crown Episode 5
Seong Hui-ju rushes to Yi An’s private residence to explain herself, but he refuses to see her and even asks for his identification tag back, leaving her frustrated. At the same time, Yi An struggles with what he overheard at the hospital, feeling hurt after hearing that Hui-ju only agreed to marry him for his status.
The next day, Hui-ju goes to the palace to confront him but first meets Yi-rang, who looks down on her and expresses relief that she won’t need to teach her royal etiquette, which she cannot understand. When Hui-ju finally speaks with Yi An, he tells her someone tampered with her car and promises to find the culprit.
However, he also ends their marriage agreement, saying their union would only put her in danger and threaten the Crown because she has enemies everywhere and breaks rules constantly. Hui-ju feels deeply hurt and cannot defend herself.
Meanwhile, her father confronts her about the situation, telling her that Yi An is just using her, but she continues to stand firm. Yi An later reveals he is trying to protect Hui-ju, just as he once failed to protect his mother. Believing he is saving her from the palace’s dangers and harm, he ultimately decides to break off the engagement, blaming himself for everything that happened.
Yi An Invites Hui-ju to the Inner Court Banquet
Yi An prepares a farewell gift for Hui-ju by inviting her to the exclusive Inner Court Banquet, a gathering reserved for elite noble women where commoners have not been allowed for centuries. However, Hui-ju gets upset when she suddenly receives the invitation.
At the same time, Choi-hyun encourages her to attend, saying it could help clear that the palace isn’t behind their breakup. He also gives her a hanbok and advises her not to wear white since the Queen Mother will wear it.
Still, Hui-ju refuses to go, which frustrates Yi An as she continues to reject him. He even tells her to say it directly to him instead of avoiding him.
Later, Hui-ju visits his private residence and confronts him, questioning why he keeps pushing her away despite everything. She reminds him, “You risked your life to save me, just to break off the engagement.” In response, Yi An explains that he is just trying to protect her, since she has already been attacked multiple times and the breakup news would only make things worse.
Hearing this, Hui-ju calls him a coward. In anger, she threatens to shoot a cat with an arrow, but Yi An quickly steps in and gets injured while stopping her. As she wraps his wound with her scarf, she tells him not to submit to oppression and says that what he did was the right way to protect someone—without letting them go. She also points out that she wants his status and never asked for safety.
While treating his injury, Choi-hyun blames Hui-ju, but Yi An defends her, saying she never intended to harm him since she never released the arrow.
Meanwhile, Castle Beauty staff finally identify the man who tampered with Hui-ju’s car after finding he used a Castle Card at a convenience store. Hui-ju then turns to Tae-joon for help since he manages the system, and they later discover that the man is deceased.
Afterward, Yi An convinces Hui-ju to attend the banquet, and ended up apologizing to each other.
Yi An Walks Side by Side with Hui-ju in Perfect Crown Episode 5
The next day, Choi-hyun meets with Hui-ju and Hye-jung to discuss banquet etiquette, and once again, Hui-ju’s status becomes an issue. As a commoner, she is told she must stay at the back of the line, but she simply laughs at how absurd it is.
Later that night, Yi An meets Hui-ju for a walk, and she practices walking according to rank by walking behind him. However, she says she is not used to walking behind someone, as she has always been the one who leads the way. In return, Yi An admits he always follows others, and Hui-ju tells him to simply walk beside her instead.
On the day of the banquet, Hui-ju arrives late in a modern white suit, despite warnings not to wear white. Her appearance draws attention, especially from Queen Mother Yi-rang. However, Hui-ju explains she did not know the dress rules and got lost in the palace.
As tensions rise at the banquet, Yi An approaches Hui-ju and asks her to teach him how to lead instead of follow, walking side by side with her toward Yi-rang and catching the attention of the crowd.
