Dear X episode 2 highlights the childhood of Baek Ah-jin and Yun Jun-seo. It shows how their bond was made and their connection grew stronger over time.
HBO Max and TVING released the first four episodes of Dear X on November 06, 2025. Dear X episode 2, titled The Moment a Human Becomes Devil, features how Baek Ah-jin and Yun Jun-seo met. It shows how Ah-jin gets ahold of Jun-seo since they were young, using him ever since. But Jun-seo, like an obedient and loyal confidant, never left Ah-jin—and even protects her.

Ah-jin and Jun-seo’s First Meeting in Dear X Episode 2
Dear X episode 2 begins with Ah-jin visiting the grave of her late mother. She was talking to her, telling the girl in her school who likes acting up (Sung-hee). Ah-jin told her what she did, and it seems like there’s nothing that she regrets. Before she left her late mother, she said that her mother should get counseling in hell and be born again.
In addition, she said that maybe in her next life, her daughter might save her. Ah-jin said that she’ll never live nor die like her mother. The scene shifted to 2007 where young Ah-jin was instructed by her mom to steal alcohol for her. Then it showed back when her mother was declared dead. She was crying along with his father.
Baek Sun-gyu later starts seeing a woman named Hwang Ji-sun, whose husband also died under suspicious circumstances. Her son turns out to be Jun-seo. However, Jun-seo’s grandfather refuses to let Ji-sun touch his inheritance. One night, Ah-jin overhears Sun-gyu saying they should record and sell videos of her to make money, then send her to an orphanage.
Ah-jin’s Father in Her School
In 2016, shortly after the events in episode 1, Sung-hee spots Sun-gyu searching for Ah-jin’s school. Seeing a chance to humiliate Ah-jin, she leads him inside. However, Jun-seo steps in again and drags Sun-gyu away—promising to give him some cash to leave.
Afterward, Ah-jin purposely “drops” Sung-hee’s notebook, which contains harsh rankings and labels about their classmates. When the other students find it, Sung-hee ends up getting beaten by the girls.
Meanwhile, Ah-jin watches Sun-gyu and Jun-seo from a distance. At that moment, an entertainment company CEO, Seo Mi-ri, notices her on the street. Jun-seo gives Sun-gyu half the promised money. He says he’ll get the rest only if he stays away until Ah-jin graduates. Once Sun-gyu leaves, Seo Mi-ri approaches Ah-jin and says she wants to make her a star. However, Ah-jin politely refuses.

Jae-oh’s Imprisonment
Meanwhile, Jae-oh receives a panicked text from his younger brother and rushes home. He finds their father in a violent frenzy, attacking the boy with a knife. Jae-oh stops him, but during the struggle, he accidentally ends up stabbing his father.
Afterward, he sends his brother to live with their aunt and asks her to look after him. Then, he calls Ah-jin and tells her what happened. He plans to turn himself in, and Ah-jin advises him to cry and show remorse in court so he can receive a lighter sentence.
By 2017, Jae-oh is sentenced to 3–5 years in prison, given the circumstances of the case. Just as Ah-jin predicted, the tears help reduce his sentence. Meanwhile, Ah-jin gets accepted into law school at Hanguk University, the same university where Jun-seo is also admitted.
However, the tuition is expensive, so Jun-seo asks his grandfather to help cover Ah-jin’s fees. His grandfather agrees, but only if Jun-seo accompanies him on a three-day trip to Japan for medical treatment.
Jun-seo Protecting Ah-jin
Sun-gyu loses all his money gambling and starts searching for Ah-jin again. He goes to Ji-sun and asks where the kids are. Meanwhile, Jun-seo gives Ah-jin the money he borrowed from his grandfather. She hesitates but eventually accepts it. However, when she returns home, her father attacks her and steals the money.
We then see a flashback to when Ah-jin and Jun-seo were younger. Ah-jin takes care of him while he’s sick. He shows her a photo of his parents and the driver, Mr. Kang. The next day, when the housekeeper takes him to the hospital, Ah-jin tells Ji-sun that she knows Mr. Kang is actually Jun-seo’s real father. She uses this information to stop Ji-sun from sending her to an orphanage and even manages to get new clothes out of it.
When Jun-seo comes back, Ah-jin tells him that his mother doesn’t truly love him. Ji-sun overhears this and complains to Sun-gyu, who tells her to bring Ah-jin outside. Ji-sun drags Ah-jin to the bathroom and tries to drown her in the tub. Jun-seo sees this, and Ji-sun stops. Ah-jin tells him to call 911 and runs upstairs, then jumps out of a window.
Ah-jin survives, just as she hoped, and the adults can no longer send her away. At the hospital, Jun-seo says he read her diary and now knows that the “X” she wrote about is Ji-sun. He realizes Ji-sun is dangerous and promises Ah-jin that he will never leave her side.
In 2017, Ah-jin wakes up in the hospital again with Joon-seo by her side. He explains that she has been unconscious for three days and the deadline for her tuition payment has already passed, meaning she can no longer enroll in the university she wanted.
The next day, at their high school graduation, Ah-jin stays quiet and distant. After the ceremony, she walks away and Jun-seo goes after her. As they walk, Ah-jin notices a man chasing a thief, and her voiceover says that if she had not met that man at that moment, his life would have turned out very differently.
Dear X episode 2 closes with Jae-oh in prison, drawing a picture of Ah-jin.
