Enola Holmes 3 Ending Explained
As Enola searches across Malta for clues about her brother’s disappearance, she crosses paths with new allies and dangerous enemies. But every lead eventually points her toward a familiar face.
Like Enola, we’re initially left in the dark about why Sherlock had been acting so mysteriously. What we do know is that he had been investigating a case before he vanished, and he seemed uneasy about Enola giving up her independence by marrying Tewkesbury.

We follow Enola as the clues lead her to Sherlock’s cunning rival, Moriarty (Sharon Duncan-Brewster). This is not Moriarty’s first appearance in the series. In Enola Holmes 2, she operated under the alias Mira Troy, pulling the strings behind the scenes.
This time, she manipulates Enola into doing the groundwork to uncover the exact location of the stolen gold. What begins as Enola’s mission to find her brother and bring him home eventually unearths a long-buried secret. Why was there gold that needed to be found in the first place? How is it connected to the trail of clues Moriarty deliberately scattered for Enola to follow?
Eventually, they discover the gold hidden inside a cave in Malta. In the end, it is rightfully returned to its rightful home in Afghanistan.
The story seemingly begins with a simple mystery—the disappearance of Sherlock—but gradually unfolds into something much bigger in the cleverest way possible. Every loose thread is explored, with each revelation adding another layer to the mystery.
Enola’s growth
Millie Bobby Brown describes her character in this way:
Enola is fierce, adventurous, and flawed – deeply flawed. I think she’s a great role model for young people, and a reminder that there’s so much more that they’re capable of.
In the last fight scene between Enola and Moriarty, Moriarty tells Enola that it was easy for her to manipulate and bait ENOLA with how emotional she is. Moriarty proclaims that she is so unlike her brother.
But Enola’s response to that sums up the big picture, and what young people can learn from her: that being emotional is okay. Enola echoes what Sherlock said to her, but with her own tweaks:
I find it quite understandable [to be emotional], and very very necessary.
Enola’s desperation to find her brother is what started this journey, but it’s also what saves it. If she was unfeeling, she wouldn’t bother looking for the clues. But because of her love for Sherlock, she bravely solves the case.
While Enola was doubting if she could solve the case, the people closest to her were always cheering her on, even giving a helping hand or a simple clue. As Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter) says, she is extraordinary, but she is not afraid to let the emotions (mainly love) in as well.
The Nuptials of Enola & Tewkesbury
First of all, his full name is Earnest Augustus?
As mentioned earlier, Enola was late to her wedding at the start. She contemplates whether she is really willing to give up her name to be a lady. You could see Enola’s struggle in trying not to lose herself and all that she has fought for, while catering to the demands of Tewkesbury’s family because of her love for her soon-to-be husband.

The movie took the time to depict a young girl’s struggle, not just in the Victorian era, but even today. It shows the difference between Sherlock and Enola – Sherlock would rather be alone, while Enola has opened her heart to Tewkesbury, wanting to spend the rest of her life with him.
Enola and Tewkesbury’s wedding (the one that actually happens in the end) feels more like who they really are. Stripping all the titles, the festivities and the complicated family dynamics, the ceremony became simple – focusing on their union, with everyone they love in the ceremony, officiated by Eudoria.
Is their story done?
While the movie certainly wraps up Tewkesbury and Enola’s love story (now as woman and husband), There is still a scene that hints of the unfinished adventures of the detective – a sunken boat with the words “The Wrath of Adeline” on the side.
The words “Wrath” and “Adeline” have already been thrown around within the duration of the movie, and ENOLA seems to think this points to Moriarty’s new undercover persona, Professor Adeline Rathe. But what if that’s not all there is to it?
Is this the ship that Tewkesbury’s father sunk?
What adventures await this fourth-wall breaking detective?
