Miss the Heart continues to explore female rage with new song “Don’t U Dare,” this time exploring anger in a cheeky and sexy way while also confronting one’s choice to either retaliate or step back.
Victoria, BC duo Miss the Heart has a new single “Don’t U Dare” out ahead of their forthcoming debut EP. The song wrestles with the temptation to fight dirty without surrendering to it. It pairs a playful sense of provocation with the duo’s emotionally charged alternative pop-rock sound to capture the internal battle of wanting to hit back vs. refusing to let their actions dictate your own.
“Don’t U Dare” was born from a conflict in which someone hit below the belt as they attempted to drag vocalist Kiarra O’Connor down. She admits that she was tempted to retaliate in kind, but O’Connor found herself confronting whether momentary satisfaction was worth becoming someone she didn’t want to be. Therefore, the song draws its tension from that push and pull.
The song came from that internal battle where I wanted to fight fire with fire, but ultimately chose not to let someone else’s actions turn me into someone I didn’t want to be. It’s about drawing a line in the sand and not going there.
The restraint doesn’t make the song less provocative. The chorus plays with layers of whispered vocals, creating a teasing, almost conspiratorial quality. According to the duo, the original plan was to whisper the chorus entirely, but they landed on a balance between the two. This allows the temptation and the resolve to step back coexist within the vocal itself.
Don’t you dare
You really wanna pull my hair
When we don’t needa take it there
But you wanna pull me way down with ya
Down down down
The track was also born from spontaneity. Miss the Heart was originally preparing a record to follow the previous single “Know Me Better,” but O’Connor came up with the chorus just weeks before the scheduled session. The idea arrived quickly and insistently that the duo decided to change the course entirely. Drummer Michael Voytash helped shape the song’s guitar solo, while a chord change in the final chorus was written spontaneously in the studio and gave the song another unexpected life. These details might seem small, but it gave the song a playful volatility, with the arrangement seems capable of changing direction as quickly as the emotions it’s portraying.
Forthcoming debut EP
The debut EP is planned to be released in early 2027, explores feminine rage. “Don’t U Dare” expands on this exploration. Rather than treating rage as a single emotion, the duo uses each release to examine a different response to the experiences that provoke it. The song approaches the same emotional territory as their previous singles “Numb Me Out” and “Know Me Better” did, but in another angle entirely. It captures the moment when anger presents a choice.

Altogether, the songs reveal feminine rage as something far more complicated than just anger. It can be exhausting and hard-hitting, empowering and cathartic. On the other hand, “Don’t U Dare” demonstrates that it can be unexpectedly sexy, cheeky, and teasing.
Miss the Heart is therefore building a debut EP around the contradictions of finding your voice, drawing boundaries, and taking your power back by allowing these songs to inhabit different stages and expressions of that experience.
