PIKOTARO continues his countdown series with a surreal Okinawa-inspired single featuring MINA (MAX).
Japanese pop performer PIKOTARO has released a new single titled “ME BAI to KATAKASHI feat. MINA (MAX)” as part of his ongoing “Tottemo Release 80.8” project. The track dropped on April 22 at midnight and marks one of the final entries in the long-running monthly series leading up to the 10th anniversary of his global hit “PPAP.”

Furthermore, the release continues PIKOTARO’s experimental countdown approach, blending humor, regional culture, and surreal lyricism. According to entertainer Kosaka Daimaou, the project is now entering its final phase with only a few releases remaining. He described the series as a fully committed creative effort that has evolved over time.
Additionally, the new single draws inspiration from Okinawa and incorporates island dialect into its concept. “ME BAI to KATAKASHI” refers to a fish species, though its phrasing gives the track a poetic ambiguity. The song plays with memory, language, and identity, shifting between reflective and absurd imagery. Lines such as “Who was that guy yesterday?” sit alongside unexpected visuals that define PIKOTARO’s style.
Joining the track is MINA from the group MAX, whose vocals bring a grounded contrast to the song’s playful structure. She shared that the collaboration began in 2019 and survived pandemic delays before finally being completed. Moreover, MINA described the track as both playful and meaningful, encouraging listeners to focus on enjoyment rather than interpretation.
The release also includes “mamadaisuki feat. Tami-tan, Onee-tan, Imouto-tan,” a family-themed song built around a familiar melody and timed ahead of Mother’s Day. PIKOTARO noted its emotional tone, calling it a personal standout.
Meanwhile, as “Tottemo Release 80.8” approaches its conclusion, the project continues expanding with additional regional-themed tracks from Japan’s Chugoku area. Despite its shifting tones, the series maintains a consistent balance of humour and experimentation.

With the final releases approaching, PIKOTARO’s countdown project builds toward its conclusion with the same unpredictability that defined its beginning.
