What happens when PIKOTARO puts a 1968 Japanese pop classic into the world of “PPAP”?

PIKOTARO answers that question with pure chaos on Tottemo Release 80.8 (10). He teams up with Japanese music legend Mie Nakao for “Koi no Sharock PPAP feat. Mie Nakao.” Additionally, this duet spins a decades-old kayōkyoku song into something uniquely catchy, slightly weird, and textbook PIKOTARO.

This is the 10th part of his monthly lineup that leads to the 10th anniversary of “PPAP” in 2026. Moreover, Tottemo Release 80.8 (10) leads with this single, a re-imagining of Nakao’s 1968 song “Koi no Sharock” through his trademark chaotic pop style.

The music video cranks up the concept, incorporating choreography inspired by the original Koi no Sharock.” Additionally, it playfully suggests that PPAP already exists all those years ago. The outcome is a wildcard dance collaboration between two artists from entirely different eras. Furthermore, it blends nostalgia with PIKOTARO’s signature offbeat vibe.

Daimaou Kosaka, a producer, describes the collaboration. Specifically, Nakao and PIKOTARO are two artists merging across time.

Did the PPAP dance already exist 58 years ago?! It’s true. But at the same time, it’s also something similar yet different,

Mie Nakao reveals how she comes up with the idea, sharing that dance steps are made between Koi no Sharock” and “PPAP”:

When we tried it out, it matched perfectly. I never imagined this song would see the light of day again after 58 years. I’m glad I’ve lived this long.

Meanwhile, PIKOTARO’s ongoing “Prefecture Songs” project enters Japan’s Shikoku region. Additionally, with humorous tracks in tribute to Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime and Kochi. Each song is a playful musical sketch that filters through his unpredictable point of view.

Lastly, he shares his thoughts in creating his latest ventures:

Shikoku is very rich in nature, and the people are warm, piko. I made these songs with that image in mind, pico… but somehow people don’t really believe me, piko. Please keep them by your side, piko.
