The First Encounter of Pete and Niran in WU The Series Episode 1

WU The Series episode 1 opens with a narration explaining that fate is woven through three elements: heaven, earth, and humanity. It also hints that some destinies are more complicated than others. In a flashback set in 2002, a baby undergoes a ritual while a tattoo is placed behind his ear.

The story then shifts to the present. Pete, a delivery man, finishes a food delivery. He later meets his friends and waits for his salary. After receiving payment, he immediately goes to a gambling house. At first, Pete experiences a winning streak.

However, everything changes when Niran enters the gambling house. Pete suddenly starts losing. For a brief moment, he sees the numbers on his cards shifting, revealing a strange entity that seems to consume people’s energy and soul.

After losing, Pete goes outside to smoke. His lighter fails to work until Niran appears and lights his cigarette. Niran tells Pete that the gambling house is rigged. He explains that it alternates between giving players luck and setting them up for losses, ultimately feeding on them.

After their conversation, Pete leaves. In the following days, he experiences a series of misfortunes at work and in gambling. When he returns to the gambling house, he again sees the same strange entity feeding on people’s  energy. Niran appears once more and immediately realizes that Pete can also see the entity. He then asks Pete to drive him somewhere.

Confronting the Yao

Niran and Pete arrive at a house, where Top—the grandson of a wealthy tycoon—meets them. Top explains the details of the property, but Niran senses something unusual. He begins inspecting the house room by room, despite Top’s attempts to stop him.

Niran questions why something unnatural exists inside a house that should be under proper feng shui protection. Pete asks Niran if he is a feng shui master, but Niran does not answer.

Suddenly, a blue entity emerges from an ornament and nearly attacks Pete. Niran’s necklace glows and protects them from harm. Top, confused, asks what happened. Pete realizes that Top cannot see the entity. Niran explains that only they can see it. Niran identifies the entity as the same one Pete saw in the gambling house. He calls it a “yao.”

The Curse Behind the Wealth

A week earlier, Niran visits a hospital where Top’s grandfather lies in critical condition. He learns that the man has experienced multiple flatlines over several months.

Niran explains that the man’s lifespan has already ended, but his body refuses to rest. He reveals that a yao—an entity born in defiance of heaven and earth—causes this condition. Niran requests to inspect the family’s house, but they initially refuse. Later, Top personally contacts him and allows access.

During the house visit, Niran confronts Top’s family. He explains that their wealth, power, and status originate from the yao. The family refuses to believe him and insists their fortune comes from hard work. Niran challenges them by pointing to repeated deaths and misfortunes within their lineage.

Pete steps in and argues that human life holds more value than wealth or power. Top’s grandmother interrupts and states that she has already decided to end everything, as her family never sought outside judgment.

Destroying the Yao in WU The Series Episode 1

As Top’s family moves his grandfather back into the house, Niran and Pete transport the gourd containing the yao. Niran performs a ritual chant while Top suddenly becomes possessed by the entity and attempts to stop them.

Top arrives at the location and threatens them with a shotgun. Pete engages in a struggle with him. Meanwhile, Top’s grandmother speaks to her husband, urging him to finally rest.

The entity leaves Top’s body. Pete gains control of the shotgun and instructs Niran to step aside. He then shoots the gourd, successfully destroying the yao.

The episode ends with Niran revealing that Pete can see the yao because he is also connected to it. He explains that the tattoo behind Pete’s ear serves as a seal. This also confirms that Niran was the baby shown in the opening ritual scene. Niran assures Pete that he will remain safe as long as he stays by his side.

Episode 1 of WU The Series delivers a strong premiere. It builds an intriguing supernatural mystery and establishes a compelling dynamic between Pete and Niran. The encounter with the yao stands out, along with the confrontation scene involving Pete and Top.

The next episode will follow Niran and Pete as they continue to face supernatural entities together.
