Rakuten Viki made Phantom Lawyer fully free with ads in Southeast Asia after strong ratings and top regional rankings ahead of its finale.
Rakuten Viki, a global platform for Asian entertainment, expanded access to Phantom Lawyer on April 24. The series is now available for free with ads across Southeast Asia.
Viki offers episodes 1–14 through its advertising-based video-on-demand (AVOD) service ahead of the May 2 finale. In addition, all 16 episodes will be released on May 2. This allows both new and returning viewers to watch the full season without a subscription.
The move comes after strong regional performance. Phantom Lawyer debuted at No. 1 in Southeast Asia during its first week. Furthermore, it stayed in the Top 3 for six consecutive weeks. It also ranked No. 1 for five straight weeks in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The series holds a 9.6/10 viewer rating. This reflects its consistent popularity across the region.
Karen Paek, Vice President of Marketing at Rakuten Viki, said the series connects through its mix of legal cases and emotional storytelling. She added that free access allows more viewers to experience the full narrative journey.
Phantom Lawyer stars Yoo Yeon Seok and Esom. The story follows Shin Yi Rang, a shy lawyer who gains the ability to see and communicate with spirits. He acquires this ability after moving into a former shaman’s office. As a result, he handles unusual cases tied to unresolved conflicts. Moreover, he undergoes personal growth while facing both legal and supernatural challenges.
Yoo Yeon Seok highlighted the character’s evolution. He said the series blends comedy, courtroom drama, and emotional depth. He also noted that viewers may start for the humor but stay for the emotional themes of life and death.
Rakuten Viki said the expanded release aims to improve accessibility. It also wants to reach new audiences while allowing current fans to revisit the series in full. Furthermore, the platform noted a growing demand for flexible viewing options across Southeast Asia.
With strong momentum in the region, Phantom Lawyer is expected to reach an even wider audience. The full series is now available for free on the Rakuten Viki app and website in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
