Samuel Virgo completes Laughing in the Wilderness with Virgo II, an introspective EP exploring love, identity, truth, and personal growth.
Sheffield-born, London-based artist Samuel Virgo closes his Laughing in the Wilderness project with Virgo II, an EP that explores identity, relationships, and personal growth through a blend of indie, alternative, hip-hop, and post-punk influences.

After releasing music as Svirgo19 for several years, Virgo adopted his real name to begin a more personal creative chapter. Drawing inspiration from Fontaines D.C., Tyler, The Creator, The 1975, Steve Lacy, Blood Orange, and others, he combines memorable melodies with introspective lyrics and self-produced arrangements.
Virgo II completes Laughing in the Wilderness, bringing together the new EP and last year’s Virgo release. Each track offers a different perspective on Virgo’s experiences and songwriting. The closing song, “The Word,” blends indie, alternative, and hip-hop elements. Inspired by the sounds of Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Master Peace, and Monster Florence, the track examines how a single word can carry weight and change everything. Virgo wrote it early in the project and chose it to close the EP.
Exploring Love, Truth, and Perception
The EP also features the singles “Slip Away” and “ICU,” which explore contrasting themes. “Slip Away” captures the vulnerability of losing yourself in the highs and lows of love. Virgo describes the song as one of the project’s most intimate moments, highlighting its understated production, guitar work, and personal vocals.
Meanwhile, “ICU” examines how people shape narratives, obscure truths, and manipulate perception. Virgo wrote the track to reflect on how the world can distort information and conceal reality. Musically, it takes a more direct approach, using repetitive structures and guitar-driven production instead of extended storytelling.
Virgo wrote, produced, and engineered the project himself, giving him the freedom to explore personal experiences while allowing listeners to interpret the songs through their own perspectives.
Building Momentum as an Independent Artist
Virgo has performed headline shows at The Finsbury and Temple of Art and Music. He has also appeared at venues and events including Colours Hoxton, Camden Assembly, Notting Hill Arts Club, Made Festival, The Alternative Escape Festival, and BARE in Norway.
Furthermore, his music has earned support from BBC Introducing Sheffield, COLORSxSTUDIO, Glide Magazine, DMY, and Ones To Watch. He also contributed to the soundtrack for BBC Three’s series Boarders, continuing to expand his presence across the independent music scene.
