Self-described as “zest pop,” Mustard Service blends rock, surf, jazz, funk, and bossa nova influences. They infuse Cuban, Uruguayan, Argentinian, and Mexican flavors, creating a unique sound tied to their identity.

The band includes Marco Rivero Ochoa (vocals, guitar), Leo Cattani (keyboard) and Adam Perez (drums). Their Latin heritage shapes their sound, with Spanish lyrics and vibrant rhythms showcased in “Aerolineas Mostaza.”

Narrating love, loss, and lingering feelings

Following “Who Knew Your Body,” the band captures fans again with their Spanish track “Aerolineas Mostaza.” The song exudes their signature sun-soaked melodies, with lyrics going into an unexpected turn.

Moreover, the track follows two former lovers meeting at the airport lounge years after separation. What begins as an awkward reunion escalates when a plane crash forces them to confront lingering affection and unsaid feelings. As frontman Marco explains:

Faced with their own mortality and stripped of their inhibitions, the two start to overflow and spill with things they couldn’t have said a moment ago.

However, it also clarifies that the song offers no easy resolution, as Marco explains:

Memories always taste better if you don’t relive them in reverse,” one character reflects, expressing what Marco describes as “a guarded affection… stern yet compassionate.

Signature sound, deeper themes

Following their single releases, the band also anticipates their new record. Chad Copelin, known for collaborations with Broncho and Wildorado, is producing Mustard Service’s upcoming record. Marco shares:

Your relationship with your producer can change everything. Watching Chad get excited enough to play and write parts for our songs is more motivating than I can put into words.

The band continues to play with their signature sound, contrasting upbeat, easy-going music with lyrics carrying deeper meaning. Marco elaborated on the album’s broader themes.

I had to deal with a lot of loss over the last year, and many songs process those emotions—things left unsaid, things that should have been. I’ve also been having apocalyptic dreams, so mortality sneaks in.

Mustard Service has previously opened for Bombay Bicycle Club and headlined sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre. With a strong live presence, a growing fanbase, and streaming numbers in the hundreds of millions, the band anticipates another exciting chapter.
