Zenareeta explores motherhood, sacrifice, and artistic legacy through “SumuHood,” a vibrant single inspired by her mother, meditation, and spiritual journey.
Mumbai-based singer-songwriter, composer, and author Zenareeta explores motherhood, legacy, and spiritual connection in her deeply personal new single, “SumuHood.” The release draws from her unconventional artistic journey, which combines ethereal pop with meditation, Advaita Vedanta philosophy, science, space, and the inner workings of the mind.

Zenareeta spent 12 years in seclusion before fully stepping into her artistic career. During that period, she spent three years meditating for up to eight hours a day. She later lived in the Himalayas and traveled through Europe. These experiences helped shape the introspective sound that defines her work today.
Despite receiving interest from record labels, Zenareeta chose to remain independent. She continues to create music on her own terms. Her writing has also appeared in literary publications in the United Kingdom and the United States. Before pursuing music, she worked in regional television and cinema.

“SumuHood” arrived unexpectedly during a late-night meditation. After meditating for two hours, Zenareeta suddenly heard the complete song in her mind. She immediately paused her session to record the melody and lyrics on her phone. She later wrote everything in her journal.
Remarkably, the song required almost no changes. Zenareeta says she rarely edits her songs because the first draft often captures exactly what she wants to express.
A Daughter Carrying Her Mother’s Legacy
The single draws from Zenareeta’s relationship with her mother, who stepped away from her career as a radio and television singer to raise her daughter. As Zenareeta’s own music began receiving national radio support, listeners noticed the connection between mother and daughter.
For Zenareeta, “SumuHood” became a way to honor what her mother left behind. When she played the finished song for her mother, the moment became deeply emotional.
The accompanying music video expands the story through a symbolic autobiographical short film centered on her mother. Meanwhile, soaring falsetto vocals, animated synths, a catchy chorus, and a lively beat give the track an uplifting sound.
The release follows a breakthrough period for the independent artist. One of her previous tracks ranked among Red FM India’s Top 3 Dance Songs of the Year 2025. Her music has also received features from Red FM and Big FM, alongside coverage from The Indian Express Indulge, Musiculture, and Radioandmusic.
With “SumuHood,” Zenareeta turns a deeply personal story into a vibrant reflection on family, sacrifice, spirituality, and artistic inheritance.
