Pen Pin unveil “Vampire,” a dark indie pop single about finding safety in love, blending dreamy retro sounds with sharp songwriting ahead of their debut album.
Just in time for Halloween, Los Angeles-based indie pop duo Pen Pin return with “Vampire,” a new single and music video that pair dark themes with their signature sun-soaked sound. The track explores the comfort of having someone who stands by you through life’s uncertainties.

“Vampire” comes from songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeni Magaña and Emily Moore, who first met while touring with Mitski. Their friendship and shared love of vintage pop inspired them to build a DIY project, with both musicians playing most of the instruments and handling the production themselves.
Jeni describes the song as a tribute to the person who makes you feel safe when the world seems unpredictable. She also draws inspiration from You’ve Got Mail, recalling a scene in which Kathleen Kelly comes up with the perfect comeback to an insult but realizes that delivering it feels wrong. Instead of responding with hostility, Jeni finds satisfaction in privately venting to her husband or Emily about the sharp retorts she could have made.
A DIY Duo With Deep Musical Roots
Both members bring extensive experience to Pen Pin. Emily has performed and toured with major artists, including Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Fun, and Gracie Abrams. Jeni has shared stages with Mitski and Ella Vos, among others. They have also earned recognition through their individual projects, Total Brutal and Magana, as well as their work as collaborators and touring musicians.
With singles such as “Fringe” and “The Boredom,” Pen Pin have established a dreamy, retro-inspired sound that evokes a lazy afternoon by a Palm Desert pool as the sun sets. Their live performances capture the same hazy atmosphere and effortless chemistry.
Now, “Vampire” adds a darker edge to that musical identity while maintaining the duo’s melodic appeal. The single also serves as the latest preview of their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album, PONY UP!. Fans of HAIM, Julia Jacklin, Wet Leg, and Girl in Red should find plenty to enjoy in Pen Pin’s blend of breezy indie pop and sharp songwriting.
Stream Pen Pin’s “Vampire” and dive into the duo’s dreamy indie pop sound, where dark themes meet catchy melodies and the comfort of unconditional support!
