Mourning Coffee releases A Slow Hearse Leaves Everyone Yearning, a 13-track album exploring grief, identity, and emotional healing.
Morristown, New Jersey goth/folk project Mourning Coffee has returned with its new album, A Slow Hearse Leaves Everyone Yearning, released April 23, 2026. The 13-track record explores the nonlinear experience of mourning. Each song turns personal stories of loss into an immersive and introspective listening experience.

Founded by Christian, Mourning Coffee centers its creative identity around what he calls “pain awakening.” The phrase describes the process of confronting emotional hardship and transforming it into something meaningful. With the new album, the project expands both musically and structurally.
Christian shares:
This whole record is like a funeral for the death of a dream or idea that’s been stubbornly clung to for a lifetime.
The album was written over several years in places that reflect the project’s dual nature, including coffee shops and cemeteries. These settings helped shape a sound that balances warmth with introspection. The result is the project’s signature goth/folk atmosphere.
The record also marks the first time a full band lineup contributed to the recording process. Self-recorded elements were combined with production support from Sam Stauff, whose work helped shape several key moments across the album.
Musically, A Slow Hearse Leaves Everyone Yearning draws from artists such as Death Cab for Cutie, The Cure, Ben Howard, and The War On Drugs. Across the album, melancholic textures meet lyrical themes of identity, longing, and emotional resilience.
Since launching in 2022, Mourning Coffee has steadily built momentum. Earlier releases reached tens of thousands of streams, while the project’s cover of a Fleetwood Mac song surpassed 100,000 streams. Mourning Coffee has also grown its live following through performances at venues like White Eagle Hall and appearances at regional festivals.
Beyond music, the project has worked with organizations focused on environmental causes and suicide awareness. That broader mission continues on the new album, which encourages listeners to reconsider their relationship with grief and self-worth.
With A Slow Hearse Leaves Everyone Yearning, Mourning Coffee presents its most fully realized release yet.
