MOMO. releases his eighth album, Tum Tum Tum, via Agogo Records. With it, he hopes to show the culmination of years honing his craft.
MOMO. is a Brazilian multi-instrumentalist who is based in London. His music moves across borders. While he has roots, Brazil, he has lived in Angola, the US, Spain, Portugal, and now the UK. He has a sound that is influenced by all of the places he’s been.
Tum Tum Tum is his eighth album. It is released via Agogo Records, and something that he put his entire life into while creating. The artist explains his process like this: “Twenty years and eight albums in, it reflects the quiet resilience of remaining in motion, refining a musical language over time and committing to craft as a lifelong practice rather than a moment.”
The album is shaped by longstanding collaborators like Regis Damasceno (bass) and Caetano Malta (guitar), and UK jazz trombonist Rosie Turton. MOMO. reiterates that, “It’s about playing together until the sound reveals itself—giving the music time to settle and breathe.”
Tum Tum Tum
The eight-track album includes tracks such as “Canto de Aldeia” which was co-written with Nina Miranda of Smoke City. It begins with bilingual dialogue between the two artists.
It gives the vibe and feeling of togetherness; he depicts this not only through the mechanics of location. But also through the intertwining of culture and language. He transcends space because he brings forward elements that everyone understands and has emotions for.
MOMO. explains, “The song evokes a bright, utopian childhood, playful, communal and grounded in nature, expressed through imagery of sun, sand and breeze.”
Focus track “Morena,” co-written with Brazilian legend Marcos Valle and Brazilian singer-songwriter Marcelo Camelo. It reiterates MOMO.’s intentions as a musician and artist. Valle also appears on electric piano in the song, while Camelo makes his appearance on other tracks across the album.
MOMO. has been acclaimed by NPR as “an artist who transcends place,” and Mojo has even praised his previous record among its Top 10 World Albums. His music is a collection of all the places he’s been, all the people he’s met, and the person he’s become throughout all of that. His tour dates are from September to October, with stops in Paris, Schorndorf, Berlin, Hamburg, and London.
