Melanie Herrera steps into her debut era with the album A Fearful & Wondrous Thing, out May 28, and drops her final pre‑release single “I Think I Lied.”
Singer-songwriter Melanie Herrera announces her debut album A Fearful & Wondrous Thing releasing on May 28. To surprise fans further, she dropped the project’s final pre-release single, “I Think I Lied.”
Melanie Herrera is a New York City-based singer, songwriter, and performer. Born to Mexican and Argentinian parents in Philadelphia, she grew up in a musically inclined household. Her mother, a psychotherapist, and her father, a Latin jazz musician, shaped her upbringing. She was surrounded by honest conversations and vibrant musical education. Herrera began singing and performing at an early age with her father’s band.
Moreover, she also trained in ballet and choir, and eventually began writing her own songs. While she grew up in music, her early career path leaned toward acting. This passion brought her to Los Angeles several years before she returned to songwriting.
She is now set to enchant fans with her upcoming album release, highlighted by the final pre-release track “I Think I Lied.”
Album Details and Upcoming Events
Herrera is not just a singer-songwriter, but a storyteller. She blends emotional precision with a deep love of storytelling, a style she calls “storybook-pop.” Her songs explore both personal and cinematic themes, enriched with character, detail, and emotional depth.
Much like this is her recent track “I Think I Lied,” a playful and flirtatious song about romantic uncertainty. Melanie captures the tension in a contradicting track that feels both delightful and restless. According to Herrera,
“I Think I Lied” is a sexy, playful contradiction about the moment you realize you didn’t quite mean your goodbye, and how easy it is to romanticize something you meant to let go.
The track will be included in her forthcoming album A Fearful & Wondrous Thing, releasing on May 28. Herrera reveals,
At its core, this record is an arrival—both to life and to myself as an artist. I’m a late bloomer who spent years believing I wasn’t someone who could accomplish great things, which kept me rooted in anxiety and self-doubt. These songs came after I finally broke free of that story, and they reflect a life lived in full, complete with love, grief, mystery, joy, and all the beautiful chaos of being alive.
A Fearful & Wondrous Thing features 12 tracks:
- There Was Me
- Cool Girls Party
- Imposter
- I Think I Lied
- You’re Doing Great
- A Little, Always
- Strangers Again
- Without Me (Album Version)

To celebrate her debut album, Herrera will charm fans with a release show at New York City’s Bowery Palace on June 4. Tickets are on sale now.
