The Newcastle and London-based duo brings together songwriter Laura James and producer-guitarist Oliver Price. Together, they draw from the sound of 90s favorites such as The Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Breeders. Their music blends catchy indie-pop melodies with grunge textures and playful self-awareness.
The duo takes its name from a line in J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. The reference reflects their approach to growing up, identity, and the desire to escape expectations. Those themes continue to shape their music.
A Sweet Song With a Dark Turn
“Apple Pie” explores the slow, hazy feeling of summer. James wrote the track during the height of the season, capturing days that seem to drift without an end. Acoustic guitar leads the arrangement, giving the song a softer character than some of the duo’s earlier work.
At the center sits the playful lyric, “Life’s an apple pie, let it float on by.” James admits she cannot fully explain what the line means. Still, she felt compelled to include it.
However, the song eventually disrupts its carefree mood. The arrangement grows more psychedelic before ending abruptly. The closing moments draw from Paul Bowles’ The Sheltering Sky, introducing ideas of death and impermanence. As a result, the track turns a simple summer fantasy into a reminder that nothing lasts forever.
That contrast reflects the duo’s wider creative identity. James describes Forget Them Wendy as a project about owning who you are, even while figuring yourself out. Their playful chemistry also keeps the music grounded in humor.
The duo has already gained momentum since releasing its debut EP. BBC Introducing named “Dead in the Water” among its Tracks of 2025, while “Plug It In” earned Track of the Week.
Now, Forget Them Wendy are building toward their debut album. They continue releasing songs one at a time while, naturally, overthinking the final tracklist.
