Hamilton, Ontario-born singer-songwriter Ariana Fig enters a new chapter with her debut full-length album, So Long, Sinnerstate!. The vibrant folk-pop record explores identity, ambition, growth, and the uncertainty of becoming who we want to be.
Following two independently released EPs, Fig expands her sound and songwriting across the album. She combines intimate reflections with stories influenced by literature, film, and imagined characters. As a result, the record moves beyond autobiography and creates space for listeners to find their own experiences in the songs.
A Bigger Story to Tell
Fig chose to release the album independently in 2026. For her, the decision offers a way to tell a more complete story at a time when artists often focus on releasing singles quickly.
“I think there’s something pretty punk rock about releasing an album independently in 2026,” Fig says. After releasing two EPs through her own label, she felt ready to introduce listeners to a fuller picture of her artistry.
The album’s title track serves as its lead single. “So Long, Sinnerstate!” draws inspiration from albums Fig listened to while writing, including MJ Lenderman’s Manning Fireworks and Briston Maroney’s JIMMY. The nostalgic song looks back at her younger self while facing the future with both uncertainty and hope.
Finding a Universal Voice
The album also reflects a shift in Fig’s creative approach. She moves beyond strictly personal storytelling and explores perspectives drawn from books, films, and her imagination.
Fig hopes this evolution allows her music to connect with more listeners. “I want my listeners to see that my writing has grown to a place that feels more universal and less autobiographical,” she explains.
So Long, Sinnerstate! captures Fig embracing change while staying connected to her roots. Meanwhile, its title track sets the tone for an album that celebrates growth, possibility, and the person she continues to become.
For Fig, the song already feels deeply personal. “If this was the last song I ever made, I’d be so happy,” she shares. “Sometimes I still can’t believe that it’s mine.”
