South Korean rapper Kim Ximya returns with his second studio album, Dogma, arriving September 9. Seven years after his last solo album, the ten-track project marks a new chapter for an artist known for pushing beyond conventional paths in Korean hip-hop.
Rather than following the traditional route to recognition, Kim Ximya has built his career through music and visual art. Over nearly a decade, he has developed a distinctive creative identity in Korea and abroad. Now, Dogma further reflects his commitment to artistic freedom and an uncompromising approach to music.
Kim Ximya Breaks Free from Genre
Created with Seoul collective Sound Supply, Dogma moves between experimental hip-hop, electronic music, and underground club sounds. Instead of staying within one genre, Kim Ximya blends these influences into a cohesive sonic world. As a result, the album highlights his willingness to experiment without sacrificing his artistic identity.
Kim Ximya also worked closely with Sound Supply members Mount XLR, cjb95, and ccr throughout the project. Together, they shaped the album’s sound while exploring new directions in his songwriting and production. Meanwhile, Grammy Award-winning engineer Mike Bozzi handled the mastering, adding the final touch to the record.
A Multidisciplinary Vision
Beyond the music, Dogma extends Kim Ximya’s creative vision into the visual arts. Acclaimed filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist Park Chan-kyong directed the music video for the album’s title track. As the younger brother of Cannes-winning director Park Chan-wook, Park Chan-kyong has built his own multidisciplinary practice across cinema, photography, and contemporary art.
The physical edition also takes an unconventional approach. Instead of a traditional CD, Kim Ximya presents Dogma through a miniature radio-inspired Buddha Machine. The collectible functions as both a listening device and an album object. Moreover, it features a curated selection of tracks that differs from the digital release.
Ultimately, Dogma reinforces Kim Ximya’s position at the intersection of Korean hip-hop, experimental electronic music, and contemporary visual culture. With the album, he continues to create on his own terms while opening a bold new chapter in his artistic journey.
