Calein revives “Oras” six years after its release, preserving its emotional core while giving the track a clearer, fuller sound through a remaster.

Six years after its debut, Filipino alternative rock band Calein is giving “Oras” another chance to be heard. The band, known for tracks such as “Umaasa” and “Someone,” has released a remastered version of the song that keeps its original emotion while delivering a fuller and clearer sound.

A Song Interrupted by Time

Calein first released “Oras” in March 2020, just as the band began building momentum. To mark the release, the group held an intimate launch at Social House in Makati, joined by artists such as Unique Salonga, Arthur Nery, and One Click Straight. Blaster and other musicians also showed their support.

For vocalist and songwriter John Dale “JD” Mustacho, the night remains memorable. “I was surprised that so many people came to support us,” he recalls.

However, the pandemic arrived only days later and disrupted the band’s plans. Live events stopped, and Calein shifted its efforts online. “We didn’t really get to promote it properly,” JD says. Drummer Benjo Criste adds that the band’s momentum was suddenly cut short.

Now, Calein sees the remaster as a chance to give “Oras” the attention it never received. “I wanted to give the song new life and give the band a clear path this time,” JD explains.

A Fresh Sound, A Deeper Meaning

Remastered by Jan Aries Agadier Fuertez, the new version retains the original arrangement and recording. It simply gives the track more clarity, width, and depth. “We didn’t change anything about the song because we wanted to keep its identity and emotions,” JD says. Oliver Salaysay adds that the vocals now sound crisper and the overall production feels wider.

“Oras” originally came from JD’s experience with unspoken love. He wrote the song after inviting his crush to a Calein gig, hoping to confess his feelings. Instead, she arrived with her boyfriend.

Today, however, the song carries a more personal meaning. JD now sees its lyrics as reflecting a hidden love for himself. For Benjo, meanwhile, the track serves as a reminder of youth and personal growth.

With JD, Oliver, and Benjo forming Calein’s current lineup, the band also enters a more mature chapter. Despite the changes, the group remains committed to the sound and identity that shaped “Oras.”

Calein hopes the remaster connects with both longtime listeners and new fans. “As long as they feel something, that’s already the reward for us,” JD says.

Listen to Calein’s remastered “Oras” and stream the track now to rediscover its timeless emotion and support the band’s new chapter.
