Kim Ximya marks his long-awaited return with Dogma, his first full-length album in six years, accompanied by a unique physical edition and a 26-minute visual work.
Kim Ximya has returned with Dogma, his second full-length album and first in six years. The 10-track digital release follows the surprise debut of a 26-minute film of the same name on September 4. Together, the album and film offer two different ways to experience Ximya’s latest project.
Ximya created all ten tracks in collaboration with Sound Supply Service, a label known for its innovative and distinctive sound. In addition, Dogma extends beyond digital platforms through a limited physical edition.
Rather than using a traditional CD format, the physical version comes as a compact listening device with a built-in speaker. The edition also features music that differs from the digital release. The team announced this distinction from the start, giving fans another reason to explore the physical version.
Demand for the unique format was strong. The physical edition sold 3,500 copies through pre-orders alone. It also temporarily sold out at select retailers.
A Visual Companion to “Dogma”
The album follows the premiere of the 26-minute Dogma music video, directed by artist and filmmaker Park Chan-kyong. The film expands the project into a visual experience that complements Ximya’s music.
Park combines his own paintings and video works with archival footage from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA). He then reworks these materials into a new visual piece created for Dogma.
With its album, alternative physical format, and accompanying film, Dogma marks Ximya’s return to the full-length format while presenting his latest work across multiple forms.
