SunKissed Lola returns with “Edi Magalit Ka,” a warm and playful single that explores love, patience, and the choice to stay connected even after an argument. The release marks the band’s return after more than a year since its last EP.
The song continues the emotional storytelling that listeners discovered through tracks such as “Pasilyo,” “Paki Sabi,” and “Makalimutan Ka.” This time, however, the band takes a familiar Filipino expression and gives it a softer meaning.
“Edi Magalit Ka” often sounds dismissive in everyday conversations. SunKissed Lola turns the phrase into an affectionate message instead. The song suggests that couples can disagree without losing the love that holds them together.
“It’s a song about relationships,” vocalist Laura Lacbain shares. “Hindi maiiwasan ang away sa relationship, pero hindi pa rin mawawala ang love. Susuyuin pa rin sa huli.”
Vocalist and guitarist Alvin “Bino” Serito calls the track a “loving anthem.” For him, the song reflects the kind of love that survives frustration. Bino says:
Even if you’re mad with your special someone, at the end of the day, they’re still your favorite person to come home to.
The band first started working on the song in 2021. Its earliest version, however, carried a stronger sense of pride. As SunKissed Lola developed the track, the members softened the lyrics and allowed more vulnerability into the story.
Vocalist and guitarist Dan Ombao says Bino helped shape the more confessional sections. He also added the line “‘Di ba?” to give the song a gentler tone.
At its core, “Edi Magalit Ka” asks listeners to choose love over ego. Bino puts that idea simply: “No one has to win. I will always choose the relationship over the argument.”
From Acoustic Beginnings to a Warm, Easy Sound
The band’s approach to the song also helped shape its relaxed character. Ombao originally wrote it as an acoustic piece before bringing it to the rest of the group. From there, each member contributed to the arrangement.
Bassist Danj Quimson wanted the production to remain simple. The band focused on giving the lyrics enough space to carry the message. Quimson adds:
We all united to make it sound laid-back, simple, and we wanted to highlight the lyrics of the song.
Unlike some of SunKissed Lola’s earlier tracks, “Edi Magalit Ka” avoids complicated arrangements. Instead, the band keeps the sound light, warm, and easy to absorb.
“For this one, we made it simple for the audience,” Bino says. “We made it magaan sa tainga.”
Ombao agrees. “That’s also what the song asks for. A very simple, refreshing, and warm song.”
Drummer Genson Viloria also noticed the song’s immediate appeal. When he first heard it, he thought the band had performed a cover. Its melody sounded so natural and familiar that it felt like something listeners already knew.
Despite its easy-listening quality, the track introduces a more direct side of SunKissed Lola. Ombao sees it as one of the band’s most honest releases. Meanwhile, Laura considers it a new direction because the song focuses on the everyday work of maintaining a relationship.
“It’s the comeback of SunKissed Lola,” Laura says.
The release also arrives as the band approaches its fifth year. That milestone has encouraged the members to become more deliberate about their music.
Quimson noticed the change during the recording process. Each member focused more closely on what the song needed instead of simply adding their individual parts.
Bino believes that approach has brought the band closer to its roots. More importantly, SunKissed Lola now understands how to make the most of its strengths.
Bino shares:
We know our strengths and now we are able to maximize it. We are more intentional in releasing this song.
The band hopes “Edi Magalit Ka” leaves listeners with a smile and a little kilig. They also hope it encourages people to approach disagreements with more patience.
“We want them to feel what we felt the first time we played the song,” Bino says. “We hope it makes them smile, the way kung paano namin siya niyakap sa umpisa.”
Laura also hopes younger listeners can take something meaningful from the track. For those entering their first relationships, she wants the song to serve as a reminder that love requires effort. Laura says:
Sana kiligin din sila. Sana our young listeners na bago pa lang sa relationship, ma-realize nila na they need to work it out.
With “Edi Magalit Ka,” SunKissed Lola begins another chapter. The band plans to bring listeners more music, content, live shows, and tours. They also want fans to discover more of who they are beyond their roles as musicians.
