Indie-pop/grunge duo Forget Them Wendy releases their new song, “Wise Guy.” The song tackles about growing up and getting wise. Additionally, with the duo’s signature style, which brings a different spin on the topics.

Forget Them Wendy are an indie pop/grunge duo that consists of Newcastle-based songwriter Laura James, and Edinburgh-born producer/guitarist Oliver Price. The origin the duo’s name comes from a line in J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan: “Forget them, Wendy. Forget them all. Come with me where you’ll never, never have to worry about grown up things again.”
Additionally, the share a mutual love for 1990s songs from bands like The Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins and The Breeders, they combine indie-pop tunes mix with grunge influences and playful, self-aware songwriting.
“Wise Guy” Details
With the latest single, it captures their humor, honesty and reflective songwriting style. It is written on Oliver’s birthday last year, and now released this year.
The song jokingly tackles the thought of growing older without necessarily becoming wiser. Moreover, it acts as a self-deprecating tease while adding on insecurity, identity and the burden to look more sure about yourself than you actually feel.
“Wise Guy” starts subtle, understated and intimate before switching gears unexpectedly into a soaring climax. The soft and delicate vocals from Laura bodes along with the melody of the guitars and a slow-pacing beat, giving a calm and relaxing vibe.
The muted instrumentals and playful lyrics sets things warm and low-key. Additionally, tackling the themes before going for the crescendo that brings the song to a motivating end.
