A Song Born From Inspiration
Although “Sippin’ On Sunshine” did not fit the concept of her upcoming Arctic-inspired album, Schutt decided to record it during those sessions. She took advantage of the opportunity to work alongside a group of acclaimed musicians, many of whom she considers personal heroes.
The production gained another layer during the mixing process. Producer Jay Newland suggested bringing in guitarist Sherrod Barnes, whose credits include Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack, and Beyoncé. Barnes contributed an expressive R&B-inspired guitar part in a single take, adding the final touch the song needed.
For Schutt, the single also reflects her approach to songwriting. She believes inspiration often appears while artists are fully immersed in their craft. Rather than setting the idea aside, she chose to develop it into a complete song.
