Liya Shapiro unveils debut EP Another Woman, a cinematic and vulnerable exploration of love, heartbreak, identity, and personal transformation.
London-based singer-songwriter Liya Shapiro creates music that explores love, identity, mental health, and emotional vulnerability. Her background in art history, fashion, and anthropology shapes every part of her creative process.
Art influences the way she approaches sound, fashion guides her visual storytelling, and anthropology helps her examine human experiences. Through thoughtful songwriting and intentional visuals, Liya creates a deeply personal world centered on self-discovery and self-worth.
Her debut EP Another Woman transforms a years-long experience of unrequited love into a deeply intimate collection of songs. Liya describes the project as an emotional diary that follows the journey from longing to acceptance. Although the tracks move through different moments in time, they share a common thread: the lingering feeling of unresolved love. The EP embraces heartbreak, uncertainty, and healing without forcing a simple conclusion.
The title Another Woman carries two meanings that define the project. It first refers to the person who became the center of her heartbreak—the woman who revealed that someone she once loved had moved on. However, the title also represents the person Liya became after experiencing that pain. The EP reflects her transformation and serves as a reminder that growth often comes from difficult emotions.
Cinematic Journey Through Heartbreak and Healing
The EP begins with a short, strings-driven introduction that establishes its cinematic atmosphere. Drawing from classical and chamber influences, the opening creates a passage into Liya’s emotional landscape. The title track “Another Woman” follows as the record’s centerpiece. She wrote the song after learning that someone she had struggled to move on from had found love elsewhere. Through vulnerable lyrics and a dramatic chamber-rock arrangement, Liya captures the complicated feeling of revisiting a past connection.
“Night Thoughts” takes a quieter approach as Liya explores the emotions that surface during moments of solitude. Inspired by French chanson and minimalist arrangements, the track reflects the late-night thoughts that return when distractions disappear. It examines how certain memories can remain present even after a relationship has ended.
Meanwhile, “Hold Me Tight” presents two versions of Liya through one song. The track combines lyrics she wrote years ago during the height of her unrequited love with a later-written chorus that reflects her growth. By bringing her past and present selves together, Liya creates a song that moves beyond heartbreak and toward self-awareness. Its guitar-driven pop-rock sound adds a different energy to the EP.
The closing track, “He’s Earthquakes,” takes a more atmospheric direction. Inspired by the storm landscapes of artist J. M. W. Turner, the song uses orchestral elements to portray love as a force that leaves lasting effects. Rather than ending with a clear resolution, the track fades with a sense of reflection, mirroring the complexity of moving forward.
Throughout Another Woman, Liya Shapiro captures the different stages of emotional change. The EP allows pain, memories, and personal growth to exist together. While the project looks back on a significant chapter of her life, it also celebrates the person she has become beyond that experience.
With Another Woman, Liya continues to build an immersive artistic universe shaped by honesty and vulnerability. Her music embraces emotional complexity and creates a space where listeners can find connection, reflection, and understanding.
