On May 8, Absolute Value of Romance episode 9 aired on Coupang Play and Prime Video. The episode highlights Eui-ju’s growing confusion over her feelings for Woo-su after their conversation. Suddenly, she begins to see him as kind, warm, and bright. She even imagines herself with Woo-su in the novel she is writing.

Eui-ju’s Confused Feelings in Absolute Value of Romance Episode 9
Absolute Value of Romance episode 9 opens with Eui-ju riding the bus home with Woo-su. She keeps replaying his comment about wanting to understand her better. To hide her nervousness, she pretends to think about the connection between Pythagoras and Hippasus.
Woo-su immediately launches into a detailed explanation. Furthermore, his passionate response reminds Eui-ju just how deeply obsessed he is with Math. On the way home, Eui-ju starts questioning her feelings for him. Later, her mother brings up Woo-su and wants to thank him for taking Eui-ju to the hospital. Although her mother criticizes him, Eui-ju unexpectedly defends him.
That reaction catches her off guard. Confused by her growing emotions, she decides to avoid Woo-su altogether. The next morning, Da-ju brings up Woo-su’s former Olympiad rival during breakfast. He complains after hearing that the mathematician recently won a Fields Medal. Moreover, he criticizes Woo-su for not reaching his full potential.
Gi-jeon argues with Da-ju over the comment. Meanwhile, Dong-ju and Woo-su quietly continue eating as the tension builds around them. At the same time, Eui-ju waits outside the teachers’ house. She hopes to walk to school with Woo-su. However, she learns he already left earlier and feels disappointed.
Later in class, Eui-ju starts seeing Woo-su differently. She quietly watches his habits and expressions without realizing how obvious her interest has become. Elsewhere, Eui-ju confides in Go-ya about her emotions. Go-ya misunderstands the situation and assumes she likes Gi-jeon. She confidently tells Eui-ju that she is falling in love. In addition, she encourages her to follow those feelings.
Around the same time, Eui-ju and Go-ya hear about Jennie’s plan to join a long field trip for extra credit and a writing project. Later, Eui-ju catches Go-ya reading Dong-ju’s story. She encourages her friend to speak with the Korean Literature professor for advice. However, the moment turns awkward.
Go-ya notices how comfortably Eui-ju talks with Dong-ju. Jealousy quickly takes over. She accuses Eui-ju of leaving her out and starts believing that Eui-ju has feelings for Dong-ju instead.
Jealousy Hits Eui-ju
That night, Eui-ju works on a new chapter of her BL novel. However, something changes without her noticing. She starts writing Woo-su’s character as the main lead instead of the side character.
Furthermore, she adds Da-ju’s character as a new love interest for Dong-ju’s character. The sudden shift surprises even her. She cannot believe Woo-su has now become the center of the story.
As she continues writing, her imagination drifts further. She pictures herself as Woo-su’s love interest and immediately panics at the thought. Later, she sends the draft to Woo-su for review. He reads the chapter and feels just as shocked by the dramatic change in his role.
The next day, tension rises again. Go-ya catches Eui-ju speaking privately with Dong-ju. Her jealousy grows even stronger. She confronts Eui-ju and criticizes her for getting close to the teacher.
Moreover, Go-ya demands the truth about Eui-ju’s crush. Eui-ju asks her to trust her instead. However, Go-ya refuses to let the issue go. The argument creates distance within their friend group.
That night, Eui-ju lies awake thinking about the fight. She worries about losing Go-ya and wonders if they can fix their friendship. The following day, Eui-ju heads to a café to study. While sitting alone, she finally understands her emotions. She realizes that her feelings for Woo-su are real.
Moments later, she spots Woo-su at the café. Her thoughts instantly spiral into romantic fantasies again. However, the mood quickly changes. She notices Woo-su talking to another woman. Jealousy immediately takes over as the episode comes to an end.
Episode 9 of Absolute Value of Romance takes the story in a different direction as Eui-ju begins to develop feelings for Woo-su. It is quite cute to watch her grow curious about him. The real question now is: how will she handle these growing feelings for the person she once hated most in the neighborhood?
