YUQI’s skills as a singer, rapper, dancer, and producer are on full display. She definitely did not hold back, and this is fitting for an artist who is having their first solo album.
In the lead-up to the album’s release, Yuqi presented a music video to hype up the fans. From there, Yuqi showcases various concept photos and teasers, culminating in the album’s eventual release. The online release and offline release are scheduled for April 23 and April 24.

Yuqi is hands-on with her first album’s concept, themes, and visuals.
“YUQI’s first mini album [YUQ1] embodies Yuqi herself, as evident from the title.” This album, reflecting Yuqi’s free-spirited yet delicate artistic qualities, visually expresses her first album’s strong confidence by incorporating the number 1 as the letter “I” in Yuqi’s name.”
Yuqi, as the composer for many of (G)I-DLE’s songs, knows what she is doing for her first album. She knows what the sound and vibe of the album should be. She collaborates with other artists, such as pH-1, Lexie Liu, and her fellow member MINNIE.

YUQ1 tracklist
- FREAK: This is the title track of the album. “FREAK” just encourages you to go and let out all of the stress that reality is throwing at you. This can also be a great track to jump on when the energy is low.
- My Way: A hopeful, positive, and wholesome track. The song delivers the message to follow yourself, as the lyrics say, “time to spread your wings.” The listener can feel the sincerity of this song.
- Drink It Up: A collaboration with rapper pH-1. “Drink It Up” is a song that has a more movie soundtrack vibe. The contrast between Yuqi’s more soulful vocals and pH-1’s rapping skills complements each other well.
- Red Rover: This song’s disco and funk beats are a good callback to 1970s sounds. Yuqi also channels her antagonistic vibe with her vocals here.
- On Clap: The hip-hop track of the album. The bass, as the lyrics say, “slaps.” “On Clap” is simple yet effective, and Yuqi and Lexie Liu’s rapping is on point.
- Everytime: The more mellow R&B track of the album. Yuqi collaborates with her fellow member, MINNIE. Both (G)I-DLE members tell a story about youth in this song.
- Could It Be: This song makes the listener wonder if they could ever get or even experience a certain feeling. The what-if of them could have been so much more.
