Singaporean singer-songwriter Rhyu makes her much-anticipated comeback with the new single, “But does my love make you feel?”
Rhyu fresh single, “But does my love make you feel?” differs from her other usual songs about longing. Instead of focusing on the longing itself, it centers on the hope that one’s love is enough for their partner.
“But does my love make you feel?” gives listeners the impression that they are floating, giddy with love, thanks to its dreamy lyrics, feathery vocals, and string arrangement with fairy-tale elements.
Rhyu, a shortened version of “Raine Hahn Yu,” has been writing music since she was 4 years old. She writes about the small, everyday details of her life. Rhyu’s songs are like snapshots of her memories and emotions. She hopes these songs will provide listeners with the same comfort they bring to her.
In recent years, Rhyu has emerged as one of Singapore’s most promising emerging artists. Her deep, raspy vocals have led listeners to compare her to the Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey. Laufey herself has noticed her on TikTok, where she posts both her original songs and covers. Rhyu began releasing music just two years ago, at the young age of 19.
Her most popular single, “It’s Fine,” has already accumulated over 1.6 million streams on Spotify, and she has a dedicated following of over 62,000 monthly listeners.
In 2023, Rhyu performed at the renowned Esplanade Theatres by the Bay in Singapore. She also served as the opening act for the Taiwanese instrumental band Cicada during their performance in Singapore. Along with other emerging Singaporean artists, she is a member of the collaborative New Mongrels. She will perform at Kuala Lumpur’s inaugural Tongtong Fest later this year.
