Reintroducing Darlene with her debut song Daydream to show that ‘This is not just a return; THIS IS HER NOW.’
Making a brilliant appearance, Darlene is ready to capture everyone’s heart with her debut single, “DayDream.” She’s struck a remarkable start with her journey, announcing who is now today.
When she was young, Darlene first captured people’s hearts by participating in the singing competition show, The Voice Kids. Showcasing her vocal prowess, she made an impact and touched many people. She took another step after debuting with SBTown’s first girl group, YGIG. She contributed her charismatic stage presence and power vocals to YGIG’s debut single, “Shaba-Shaba.” However, because of health reasons, Darlene had to leave the group and take a rest for a while.
Darlene as a solo artist
On February 9, 2024, Darlene is ready to show everyone that this is her now! She is set to carve a new path as she gears up as a solo returning artist for the release of her debut single, “Daydream.” Darlene is under the supervision of SBTown’s CEO, Mr. Geong Seong Han, and the care of SBTalent Camp’s South Korean trainer, Ms. Adelaide Hong, and is being co-managed by Ms. Kathleen Dy-Go of Universal Records.
“DayDream” narrates a compelling story of conflicting emotions, where doubt and denial intertwine with despicable feelings towards someone special. The song explores the interesting and complex point when someone is experiencing the stages of falling in love, capturing the essence of confusion and the adamant denial of these complicated feelings.
The said song is a reflection of the whirlwind of emotions one goes through when love begins to blossom. Its playful beat adds an interesting layer, symbolizing the unpredictability of feelings.
Darlene said that she’s grateful and honored to work with Korean producers for this bubbly song, which is a reflection of the endless emotions one goes through when love is at its beginning. It was recorded in South Korea and has a notable hip-hop vibe with kitsch trap beats and hyperpop guitar chopping that showcases her versatile vocals, melodic prowess, and fresh, lively delivery.

A big step into a new journey
In her media conference held on February 16, 2024, Darlene expressed that it was indeed a difficult decision to depart from her Ppop group. However, unable to keep up with the rest of the team and mindful of not becoming a burden due to her health condition, Darlene decided to leave the group. This choice came after several discussions with the management, weighing the options carefully. Ultimately, she prioritized her well-being and artistic aspirations in her departure from YGIG.
She enthusiastically answers questions about leaving her group and making her debut as a solo artist. According to her, they still have connections and hang out with each other, even though she is not part of their group. She iterates that everyone supports her and wishes her the best. As a soloist, she has set her own pace and focuses on her vocal prowess.

Pop Journal also asks her some questions, including “What would you make your overall journey into if it were a song?” She wants it to be titled ‘Strong’. Despite all the challenges she faced, she remained strong and continued moving forward. Another question was, “If Darlene is not an artist, what is her profession now?” and she answered, “If I were not an artist, I would be a psychologist.”
Moreover, she also demonstrates her musical talent through her involvement in creating her own songs. Darlene also mentioned her 95% participation in making her debut song, “Daydream.” Sharing how she makes her songs demonstrates her capability. She describes feeling the vibe from the beats and transforming it into lyrics that suit her emotions. Additionally, she expresses her desire to delve into other genres to explore and showcase her versatility.
