“Pure Heartbreak” explores the universal pain of loss after a breakup. Through expressive, melancholic piano lines, the piece captures the emotional highs and lows of separation with raw honesty.

Meanwhile, the accompanying music video, directed by Klaus Hoch, follows two lovers as they part ways in the California desert. Visually, its cinematic imagery reflects the track’s emotion. As a result, it creates a mini-film experience that strengthens the music’s impact.

The Upcoming Neo-Classical Album, Excursions

“Pure Heartbreak” is the lead single from Robinson’s upcoming neo-classical album Excursions, a deeply personal project developed over three years. Throughout the album, he explores grief, heartbreak, resilience, and hope. Along the way, the music traces an emotional journey from despair and fracture to struggle, renewal, and moments of fragile light. Ultimately, it leaves listeners inspired and deeply moved. He explains:

I kept defaulting to the acoustic piano as a way to process grief and sadness. Over time, I realized I was creating a family of music that reflected what I—and many others—were going through.

Created alongside longtime collaborator Klaus Hoch, Excursions offers an immersive visual and musical journey. Throughout the album, each track becomes a brief departure from the expected path, guiding listeners through an emotional voyage on a deeply human level.

Moreover, the album delivers cinematic, adventurous, and deeply emotive music. With romantic melancholy, dramatic twists, and moments of hope, it highlights Robinson’s ability to craft instrumental pieces that spark vivid images and emotion. As he says, “This is the work I am most proud of.”

About Peter Manning Robinson

Born in Chicago and raised between Vancouver and Los Angeles, Robinson began studying piano at age three. By twelve, he was already performing professionally. Moreover, Robinson’s career spans film, television, orchestral, and live performance. Over the years, he earned an Emmy Award for KABC’s Above and Below and five BMI Music Awards for Without a Trace. At the same time, members of the London Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Musica Nova have recorded his orchestral works.

However, Robinson then faced a major setback with severe tendonitis. Rather than stepping away, he chose to reimagine his piano technique through a radical retraining process. Consequently, he created the Refractor Piano™, a revolutionary acoustic instrument. Today, it enables fully live “Refracted Music” performances without pre-recorded tracks or external sounds.
