Completing the trilogy with “In Between” and “Dream,” mikah unveils Homesick, a three-part journey of the heart that spotlights introspection and vulnerability in his search for home.

Japanese-American singer-songwriter mikah releases the last two tracks of his Homesick EP. The record is an introspective look at the singer’s reinterpretation of home that mirrors his own literal and emotional journey as an artist.

Keeping it personal

Released back in October, the lead single “Escape” starts the record off with a dreamy tightrope walk between the anxiety of leaving everything behind and the irrepressible desire to chase one’s dreams. The accompanying music video shows mikah enjoying a trip through nature with his friends, evoking a sense of nostalgia before having even left.

Can I escape? Is it too late?

The last few scenes show him leaving this idyllic childhood world and running off into the darkness of his own future.

“In Between” is a gentle acoustic track, appropriately bridging the gap between the hesitation of “Escape” and the weight of “Dream.” While the genre is new territory for the RNB artist, mikah’s crooning voice suits the wandering midpoint of the journey well, capturing the ache of looking for where you belong.

Somewhere in between
Who I’m supposed to be
That version of me I’m holding onto
Nowhere I belong to

Finally, “Dream” shows mikah as he is now, deep in the streets of Tokyo. The music video, directed by the same French creative team in charge of “Escape,” contrasts the freedom of his hometown with the isolation of Shibuya, as the singer rides taxis and navigates the city on his own.

Though this track is the most musically uplifting, the lyrics explore the idea of an imperfect future that can only be found in one’s dreams. With this realization comes the acceptance that home is no longer a physical place, but rather a state of clarity and growth that you carry with you.

Dreaming feels like home.
Eyes closed, I’m on my way
Now that’s all I know
I hope I’ll see it in a dream

What’s next for mikah

Homesickness is a feeling that mikah knows well. After leaving his home in Hawaii and moving to Tokyo in 2016, he started his music career as part of the boy band INTERSECTION. His idol life would eventually lead him to the Chinese show Produce Camp 2021, also known as Chuang 2021, where he gained recognition as a top performer. Through the show, he debuted as a member of INTO1 and released more singles and covers over the group’s two-year run.

mikah’s solo career began in 2023 with the release of his first EP, bleached. This was followed up with the all-English EP, PRETTY LIES, released a year later in 2024. He continued making a name for himself on the global music scene with performances at Summer Sonic Tokyo and the Meta Moon Festival in Dubai. His impact remains strong all across Asia with the live performance of his song “so I don’t forget” gaining eight million views on YouTube.

With a collaboration with 88rising, mikah sets the stage for yet another journey into the unknown. If Homesick is any indication of what he is capable of, we can only look forward to what else he has in store.

mikah’s Homesick EP is available to stream on all music platforms.
