With its Oberheim OB-X8 synths and falsetto refrain, “Basic Being Basic” tells the tropes of modern-day posturing. A follow-up to his 2022 album, DECIDE, which features his hit song “End of Beginning”, The Crux is set for release on April 4th via AWAL Recordings.

The Crux album details

Co-produced by Keery and his long-time collaborator Adam Thein, the album shows lush guitars and instrumentation that reminisces 60’s and 70’s pop, a different sound from his previous works. It’s an album that has a theme of loss and yearning, but also wit and gratitude. It not only showcases his ambitious vision but also his skills as a deft multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Keery or his collaborators wrote all the songs.

Keery is currently working on the album worldwide during a particularly unique period in his life. At that time, Keery was grappling with the adjustment to his new job and the distance from his friends and family. What starts as a mindset of dissolving a relationship goes back to self-resilience and a celebration of nurturing the community. These themes mirror the writing and the spirit of the music, with help from his close personal circle; it gives the album a warm vibe showing the bonds at the record’s core.
