Hong Kong In The Lens By Asian Directors

Presented by CJ ENM Hong Kong and Hong Kong Tourism Board, the micro-film project Hong Kong In The Lens By Asian Directors kickstarted its first premiere in Korea.

Hong Kong in the Lens by Asian Directors is a collaboration of CJ ENM Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board. They produced three microfilms by accomplished directors from Asia, showcasing the beauty, culture, and vibrancy of Hong Kong.

The joint effort of CJ ENM HK and HKTB is particularly noteworthy. The series has been chosen to be featured at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (HKAFF).

The collection includes microfilms directed by three highly talented Asian directors: Kang Yunsung (“The Outlaws”) from Korea, Filipino Director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, and Thai Director Nattawut Poonpiriya (“Bad Genius”). The series made its debut in Korea on November 23, premiering Hong Kong, Within Me directed by Kang Yunsung, featuring Woo Hyerim (Wonder Girls) and Chansung (2PM). The gala premiere was graced by the director and main cast of the microfilm.

Hong Kong in the Lens by Asian Directors – The Microfilm Series

Hong Kong, Within Me weaves a romantic fantasy across various corners of Hong Kong. It showcases both widely recognized scenic spots and more intimate local establishments, offering the audience two distinct facets of the city. The series will have its premieres in Thailand and the Philippines on December 6 and 10, respectively.

On the other hand, in the microfilm Zi Mui, Thai director Nattawut Poonpiriya tells the story of two sisters from Thailand. The sisters seek someone with Zi Mui in Hong Kong. The film utilizes wider angles to capture the expansive night scenes of Hong Kong. Real-life sisters Cris Horwang and Ploi Horwang work together for the first time in this film.

Cathy Garcia-Sampana, the renowned Filipino director, presents her debut microfilm, Toss Coin. She revisits Hong Kong after directing the highest-grossing domestic film in Philippine history, Hello, Love, Goodbye.

Specifically, Toss Coin revolves around two strangers from the Philippines finding love in Hong Kong, exploring themes of fate and courage to take chances. The film beautifully showcases different architectural silhouettes as the characters traverse Hong Kong, creating a sweet and touching romance.

Moreover, Hong Kong in the Lens by Asian Directors is a collaborative project by CJ ENM Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, marking a significant milestone in Asian cinema. The series skillfully captures the diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage of Hong Kong.

In December, the three microfilms will be aired on tvN Asia and OTT platforms across Southeast Asia. Additionally, broadcasting details for TV channels in Thailand and the Philippines will be announced later. The Korean microfilm, Hong Kong, Within Me, is scheduled to air on CJ ENM’s TV channel. It will also be available on tvN SHOW and TVING, at 9:30 PM on December 8, 2023 (Friday).
