After chilling last November, Red Velvet takes everyone to the solar system with their latest comeback Cosmic!

SM Entertainment girl group Red Velvet takes you to the unfamiliar with their latest EP, Cosmic. Of course in Red Velvet fashion, this comeback has that experimental vibe that the group is notorious for. This is their latest musical activity after their third full album Chill Kill.

Cosmic tracklist review

1. Cosmic

The lead single is the introductory track of this latest EP. The song itself is great; the listener will definitely know this is a Red Velvet song. It is a combination of classical music and dance-pop, an experimental vibe that they are known for. Listening to this made us feel that this kind of love is “unfamiliar” and “out of this world,” hence the title. The vocals are on point as always, and through their singing, we relate to a love that is uncertain but we still want to experience it regardless.

As for the music video, expect from Red Velvet that they will always excel at this aspect. Most of the concept is inspired by the Midsommar film. We always praise the group’s visuals in their music videos, and this is no different here. The embroidery-like painting at the start is also a nice touch.

2. Sunflower

The song’s lyrics continue the space metaphors from “Cosmic.” It tells the story of being “hypnotized” when you are in love. There is little to nothing you can do but acknowledge it. We feel relatable because, at some point in our lives, we all felt like this. We might argue, that some still do. Together with that strong feeling of love is that bass that goes along with the song. Red Velvet shines on love metaphors.

3. Last Drop

“Last Drop” is a contender to be the best B-side of this EP. As Seulgi sings, “You make my world go around; turn it right up when it’s down,”  it reminds us of that certain someone. A relaxing R&B tune, and the vocalization from the group is on point as always. To top it off, the bridge part with Wendy and Yeri is amazing, poetic, and sincere at the same time.

“No one knows where a fading star goes. But we can feel each other, and I’ll fly light-years to find you. To you, who made me shine bright in the boundless night. To you, my universe and the only reason I exist.”

A perfect romantic bridge, fit for a romantic song.

4. Love Arcade

An upbeat tune and a straightforward message for this one. The different stages of love reflect the stages you encounter when you play a game. The song makes the listener think that will they do something to “level up” in the game of love or will they do nothing? It makes the listener wonder about these types of things.

5. Bubble

Another contender for the best B-side. We love the retro city-pop vibe this song has, and the vocal harmonization is angelic, which makes it a delight to listen to. We feel like we are on a journey into the far reaches of space when we listen to this, keeping up with the cosmic/space theme this EP has.

Lastly, “Bubble” can also be a good addition to a workout playlist with the energetic beat it has.

6. Night Drive

The perfect song when you are….on a night drive. You know the feeling of driving through the night and just appreciating the landscapes you pass through? Together with the shimmering brightness of the moon.

Finally, the quiet and relaxing vibe of a late-night stroll. Play this song, and you might wish your journey would not end. “Night Drive” is a great way to close this EP.

Final thoughts

Cosmic is another win for Red Velvet. We love their space and love theme for this comeback. The lyrics are full of metaphors and hidden meanings as most Red Velvet songs do. The music video is a treat to watch thanks to the theme, concept, and cinematography. The girls always deliver.

With the announcement of their FanCon, this is the perfect time to listen to this EP.
